Transportation Coordinator ( School Bus Endorsement Required)

Job Summary The Transportation Coordinator reports to the Program Operations Director and is responsible for providing a coordinated transportation system to serve ALPI clients. The Coordinator works closely with the Director to coordinate the safety and maintenance of school buses and all Head Start assigned vehicles in accordance with federal, state and DCF regulations and Performance Standards. Responsibilities Implement and evaluate a transportation program to effectively meet the transportation needs of ALPI clients. Coordinate transportation routes with assigned drivers, including child’s name, pick‑up time, departure time and attendance. Ensure high standards of safety practices are met and maintained at all times with vehicle operation and bus routes. Review Transportation Inspection Reports and follow up to ensure timely repairs and/or services. Provide training and technical assistance to Bus Drivers on safety practices (child restraining systems, vehicle operations, etc.), appraise performance, and address and resolve complaints. Maintain appropriate records and files (daily inspections, monitoring reports, referrals, etc.). Maintain records of vehicle maintenance and service (repairs, warranties, routine services, etc.). Cooperate with center staff to implement the referral process and transportation procedures. Keep a record of gas and mileage to track transportation services for ALPI clients. Assign drivers for daily pick‑up/drop‑off and field trips. Participate in pre‑service and ongoing training, agency events, workshops and educational classes for professional development as required. Report suspected child abuse and neglect situations. Submit reports covering all program activities as required. Perform other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervise Bus Drivers. Indirectly supervise Bus Monitors. Qualifications Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to clients and other employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables on standardized situations. Means of transportation. Knowledge of State Motor Vehicle Laws. Knowledge of office procedures and practices. Ability to assemble, organize, enter, and interpret data. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations accurately and rapidly. Ability to communicate in writing and orally. Ability to type, use computer software, and basic office equipment. High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of education, and up to six years of job‑related experience. Physical Demands Employees must stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, keyboard, and perform gross manipulation or feel tasks; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Several times a day, exposure to outside elements may occur. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Valid driver’s license required.
