SHIPPING CLERK

Summary A shipping clerk manages outgoing, and sometimes incoming, goods by preparing, packing, and labeling shipments accurately according to company and carrier standards. They maintain detailed records of inventory, utilize logistics software, and coordinate with carriers to ensure timely delivery. Key duties include inspecting goods for damage, tracking shipments, and maintaining warehouse organization. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Process packages for deliveries using UPS and FedEx Software. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Dynamics AX Software. Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Inserts items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments. Loads all welding and assembly systems on flatbed trucks for delivery to customer plants. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Plan shipments and organizes transportation for customer deliveries. Performs light maintenance and cleaning of company owned trucks. Keeps the Shipping and Receiving area neat and clean at all times. Understands and follows safety & environmental regulations and identifies safety/environmental concerns. Adheres to the Quality System and participates in continuous improvement. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job. Experience At least 2-years Shipping & Receiving experience. At least 2-years Hi-Lo experience. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
