Elementary School Counselor

School Administrative Unit 9

POSITION: Elementary School Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. NH teacher certification in School Counselor #0040 or proof of eligibility for NH certification
  2. Bachelor's degree or higher
  3. Experience preferred but not required
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide all students with a quality educational program in which they


reach their full potential

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


This person would work collaboratively with the administration and faculty to give support to


students and families in our school community. This person needs to be skilled at providing


whole group and small group instruction, be able to provide individual social and emotional


support and interventions, work collaboratively with outside agencies, and be an


advocate for students and families.
  1. Align the school counseling program with school district mission and goals;
  2. Implement school counseling program based on district, state and national models;
  3. Implement career, academic, and personal-social competencies for student learning;
  4. Implement and maintain a school counseling calendar;
  5. Use data for program design to be responsive to school needs
  6. The ability to translate counseling theory into the practice of school counseling using knowledge of legal and professional standards, including: The American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  7. Confidentiality in a school setting;
  8. Collaboration, teamwork and supervision and the ability to apply self-awareness;
  9. Apply a knowledge of human growth & development to the school counseling program;
  10. Use technology in school counseling, record-keeping, and student information systems;
  11. Formulate, follow, and evaluate student, school, and community needs;
  12. Gather data for state and district reporting requirements
  13. Communicate about the counseling program to students, teachers, school boards, administrators, and parents;
  14. Build leadership skills in self and others;
  15. Participate in an advisory committee to the school counseling program;
  16. Develop and apply crisis prevention and response;
  17. Address student needs for college and career readiness knowledge and skills;
  18. Scheduling and graduation requirements;
  19. Perform other duties as determined by the Principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Conway Education Association (CEA) contract


WORK YEAR: 187 day / school year position, plus 11 additional days

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Conway School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel. The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator
