School Counselor

Each school shall provide a guidance program for all students through the cooperative efforts of the principal, teachers and school counselor. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social development for all students in accordance with the TN Model for Comprehensive School Counseling.

Responsibilities include acting as a student advocate, communicating regularly with school administration, providing direct services through the guidance curriculum, facilitating the evaluation of the school counseling program, presenting developmental lessons in the Pre-K12 guidance curriculum, facilitating and coordinating educational and career planning, consulting and collaborating with teachers and other personnel, assisting students with educational, career and life planning, coordinating and administering state mandated tests, interpreting and utilizing student data, organizing and conducting career related activities, providing scholarship and financial aid information, implementing an effective referral and follow-up process, providing individual and group counseling, maintaining contacts with community social service agencies, providing in-service and staff development, participating in professional development activities, adhering to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards.

Additional duties include performing other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment used includes standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings is required. Works in standard office and school building environments.

Certification/License: Active School Counselor Pre-K-12 Edorsement - 487 Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Education: Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in school counseling. Experience: Successful prior school counselor a plus. FLSA Status: Exempt
