About the role The Quality Engineer is responsible for executing and supporting quality assurance and control processes within ZM Trucks' commercial vehicle manufacturing operations, including Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) assembly. This role focuses on in-process quality control, structured problem-solving, supplier quality support, and continuous improvement to ensure that vehicles and components meet defined quality standards and regulatory requirements. What you'll do In-Process & Product Quality Control
• Execute quality control activities across: o Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), End-of-Line (EOL) inspection and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)
• Ensure compliance with inspection standards, control plans, and work instructions
• Monitor production quality performance and escalate issues in a timely manner
• Verify product conformity against specifications prior to release Problem Solving & Corrective Actions
• Lead and support structured problem-solving activities using: o 8D Methodology, 5 Why's Analysis and Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for internal defects and process deviations
• Implement and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) Process Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
• Support implementation of: o Error-proofing (poka-yoke) solutions, Process standardization and optimization and Waste reduction initiatives (lead principles)
• Drive improvements in First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduction of rework and scrap Quality Documentation & Core Tools
• Develop, update, and maintain: o Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Inspection standards and checklists
• Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities
• Participate in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) preparation and documentation Supplier Quality Support
• Support incoming material quality control and supplier issue resolution
• Assist with: Supplier inspections and process audits, and Supplier corrective action requests (SCAR) and follow-up
• Monitor supplier quality performance, including PPM and defect trends Quality Data & Reporting
• Collect, analyze, and report quality data, including: o Defect Rates, PPM Metrics, and Scrap and Rework Data
• Prepare daily and weekly quality performance reports
• Support KPI tracking and continuous improvement initiatives Audit & Compliance Support
• Support internal, external, and certification audits (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, regulatory)
• Ensure compliance with established procedures, standards, and documentation requirements
• Maintain audit readiness and support corrective action closure Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate closely with: o Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain
• Support real-time resolution of quality issues on the shop floor
• Provide feedback to improve product design and manufacturing processes Required Skills/Abilities
• Attention to detail and process discipline
• Effective communication and teamwork
• Hands-on, shop-floor oriented approach
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
• Three years of experience in automotive or manufacturing quality
• Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and SPC)
• Six Sigma Green Belt (or in progress) a plus.
• Experience in a production environment (assembly preferred)
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
