This is a supervisory position that performs under the direct supervision of the Dentist, supervising, motivating, training and evaluating dental assistants. This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. Supervises work priorities and scheduling of daily clinics, assigning workload based on capability and clinic requirements. Directs work of dental assistants to insure maximum use of time. Supervises the overall operation of the dental clinic including scheduling patients’ appointments as needed. Assists in interviewing and selecting dental assistants. Trains and supervises other dental assistants in procedures, methods, use of equipment and properties of material. Assists in development of teaching aids, making continuing education available and encouraging dental assistants to acquire new skills. Assists dentist in the treatment of patients. Contributes to development of program goals and objectives. Contributes to implementation of organizational strategic plan. Manages difficult clients positively and appropriately. Ensures writing, including electronic communications, is professional, error-free, clear, and concise. Consistently works to ensure patient satisfaction and maintain positive relationships with staff to help support the delivery of quality patient care. Ensures all required reports or reviews, are prepared in accordance with guidelines established by the Dental Director. Public Health Competency Domain 6: Public Health Sciences Skills Clinical Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients Records treatment information in patient records Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays Applies protective coating of fluoride to teeth · Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts Pours, trims, and polishes study casts Cleans and polishes removable appliances Fabricates temporary restorations and custom impressions from preliminary impressions Places and removes rubber dams and matrices Places temporary restorations Places dental sealants Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs Removes sutures Administrative Schedules appointments, prepares bills and receives payment for dental services, completes insurance forms, and maintains records, manually or using computer Maintains supply inventory Orders supplies Performs routine equipment maintenance and repair Ensures clinic follows OSHA and ADA guidelines · Provides written reports to the Dental Administration Office Completes all mandatory training as required by supervisor Motivates colleagues to achieve program and organizational goals by participating in clinic team meetings and respecting different points of view Uses performance management systems for program and organizational improvement to meet productivity standards Monitors productivity reports and if necessary, works with the Senior Dentist to improve productivity for the clinic and ensure that the productivity criteria and measures are met as set by the Dental Program in terms of number of patients per hour, RVU, or both on a monthly average Monitors program budget Reviews staff EARs weekly and approves leave and time sheets in People First biweekly on Thursdays or weekly for any OPS staff Completes or ensures that Superbills for each patient are completed at the end of each service 100% of the time Completes and submits People First time sheets biweekly on Thursdays and EARs weekly 100% of the time Attends and completes 100% of FDOH-Duval mandatory training by the specified deadlines. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of dental equipment, instruments and supplies, basic dental terminology. Ability to perform routine dental laboratory work, supervises people, determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments. Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare reports, communicate effectively, and maintain effective working relationships with others. Technical dental assisting skills; organizational and planning skills; self-direction and self-motivation; and human relations skills. Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
