Dental AssistantBranch Health Clinic Marine Corps Air Station Miramar - San Diego, CA 92126OverviewSalary Range $23.45 - $23.45 Hourly Position Type Full Time Category Health CareDescriptionCompass Government Solutions is currently recruiting qualified Dental Assistants to provide dental support services at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Naval Medical Center San Diego, in San Diego, California.This position supports dental treatment operations, patient care, and clinical support services in a military medical treatment facility serving active duty service members and other eligible beneficiaries.Work ScheduleSchedules are based on clinic requirements and may include 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts. Some shifts may be up to 12 hours in duration with an additional 60-minute uncompensated meal break.Alternative Work Schedules (AWS), such as 4/10 or 9/80 schedules, may be available on a case-by-case basis with Government approval.Job Duties:Assist dentists during restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgery, endodontic, and periodontal proceduresReceive and schedule patients for treatmentObtain and document patient medical histories, examination findings, treatment information, and prescription dataSterilize instruments, materials, and equipment, prepare surgical trays, and maintain dental equipment in proper working conditionPerform chairside assisting and authorized intraoral procedures as directed by the dentistTake preliminary impressions for study models and perform authorized support procedures, including removal of sutures, placement and removal of rubber dams, matrix bands, wedges, and periodontal dressingsProvide post-treatment instructions and educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and prevention of dental diseaseOperate dental X-ray equipment to obtain intraoral and extraoral radiographsClean, maintain, and perform minor maintenance on dental radiographic equipmentPour and trim dental models, fabricate custom impression trays, and maintain recurring reports related to dental activitiesQualificationsEducationCandidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways:Certificate or Associate Degree as a Dental Assistant/Technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 monthsCertification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 monthsCertification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 months36 months of experience within the preceding 48 months as a Dental Assistant in a private practice or military clinicMembership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 monthsAdditional RequirementsCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationRadiation physicsRadiation biologyRadiation health, safety, and protectionX-ray films and radiographic film qualityRadiographic techniquesDarkroom and processing techniquesFilm mountingDigital radiographic processing techniquesCertification in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75ExperienceSix (6) months of experience as a Dental Assistant after graduation, orSix (6) months of experience as a Dental Assistant within the last yearCitizenship/SecurityU.S. citizenship is required for this position due to access requirements for U.S. Government computer systems and networks.Must be able to meet all credentialing and onboarding requirements for work within a Military Treatment Facility.
