Position Access Service Representative I Department/Unit: Patient Access Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $46,215.00 - $60,080.00 Responsibilities Capture demographic and insurance information by telephone or in person. Use eligibility applications to verify insurance eligibility, interpret responses and record appropriate health insurance information. Collect financial responsibility from patients based on eligibility responses or estimates for services. Ensure accurate patient lookup to confirm correct patient registration. Discern demographic and insurance information to maintain accurate registration. Interpret information received from insurance payers regarding patient eligibility and financial responsibility. Discuss patients’ financial obligations and collect payments via cash, credit card, or check. Explain regulatory forms and answer patient questions; obtain signatures as required. Scan or manage online form templates to maintain the Electronic Health Record. Comprehend federal, state, and third‑party payer regulations applicable to hospital registration. Work in multiple systems during a telephone call or patient‑facing interaction to complete accurate registration and support clinical workflow. Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. – required. 1–3 years of applicable experience in customer service and strong computer skills – required. Hospital or clinic office experience – preferred. Proven customer service skills with the ability to exceed expectations. Ability to multi‑task in a stressful, high‑patient‑volume unit. Ability to learn in a classroom setting and utilize resources. Ability to remain composed under pressure. Capability to review information and draw appropriate conclusions. Good judgment and resourcefulness to solve problems and elevate issues as needed. Team‑oriented, adaptable to high‑stress situations and possessing social and emotional intelligence. Ability to work with a diverse population, including critically injured, mentally disturbed, and belligerent patients. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Physical Demands Standing – occasionally. Walking – occasionally. Sitting – occasionally.
