JOB TITLE: EEG Technician

DEPARTMENT: Rheumatology/Neurology Clinic

HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: Part time, 16 hours weekly. GENERAL SUMMARY

The EEG Tech functions as a resource person to physicians and their staff, family members and hospital staff. Prepare patients and performs Electroencephalograms, Ambulatory EEG's, and other tests within their scope of practice.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Functions as a resource person to physicians and their staff, family members and hospital staff
• Prepares patient and performs Electroencephalograms, Ambulatory EEG's, BAER's, VEP and other tests within your scope of practice
• Edit and prepare test for reading by a Physician
• Reports findings or concerns to reading physician for prompt interpretation
• Employee will demonstrate customer service in all interaction, that is compassionate, courteous, friendly, non-judgmental and demonstrate a respect for privacy
• Cleans and maintains equipment (EEG machine and accessories)
• Uses Hospital EMR for documentation
• Use specific protocol for patient wires including taking them off and proper cleaning and storage
• Some office responsibilities such as scheduling, filing, computer and telephone skills
• Performs other duties as directed by physician or office manager
• Will work 8 hour shifts unless other arrangements are made with the Director

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Requires sitting for long periods; also stooping, bending, and stretch for files and supplies. Occasionally lifts files or paper weighing up to 20 to 30 pounds.

2. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type at 40 wpm minimal, operate a calculator, telephone, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.

3. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in an environment which can be very stressful.

4. Auditory acuity to hear others for purposed of fluent communication.

5. Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands: a. Floor to Knuckle- 20lbs b. 12" to Knuckle- 30lbs Knuckle to Shoulder- 20lbs c. Shoulder to Overhead- 10lbs d. Carry 14ft- 30lbs e. Push 25ft- 10ft/lbs f. Pull 10ft- 10ft/lbs

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Office Manager and Director

Qualifications

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Experience preferred but will train
• Current AHA CPR for Healthcare Provider or Professional certification required
• Graduate of a two year Cardiovascular program or equivalent combination of training is preferred
• Certification of registration by a National Certifying Cardio-Vascular Agency is desirable
• Must be able to communicate with and perform tests on patients of all ages, pediatric to adult and staff
• Two years experience is preferred
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes is preferred, either through education or experience, but on-the-job training is acceptable.
• General knowledge of mathematics and accounting principles.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry.
• Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
• Ability to deal courteously with patients, co-workers, and others.
• Ability to communicate clearly.
• Knowledge of Patients' rights.

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL

Category 1 Category 1 Maximal Risk this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Work is performed in an office environment. 2. Involves frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public. 3. Will work in an office with co-workers where traffic may be constant, subjecting your work to interruptions, which can produce stress and fatigue. 4. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. 5. Works in an office where there are relatively few discomforts due to dust or dirt. There are some exposures to print noises.
