Human Resources Director

HR Director – New York Our client, a growing and well-established organization, is seeking an experienced HR Director to join its New York team. This individual will play a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the organization while serving as a trusted HR advisor to business leaders and employees. Onsite in NYC Monday-Thursday, remote Friday Must have experience in Retail/Apparel/Fashion/CPG The ideal candidate will be a hands-on HR professional with strong expertise across employee relations, performance management, talent development, recruitment, compliance, and organizational planning . This role will work closely with leadership to develop and implement HR initiatives that support employee engagement, retention, and overall business objectives. Key Responsibilities Build strong, collaborative relationships with business leaders and employees at all levels, serving as a trusted HR advisor and strategic partner. Partner with leadership to develop and continuously improve HR programs and processes that support the attraction, retention, development, and engagement of talent. Manage the full onboarding process, including new hire orientations, ensuring a positive and seamless employee experience. Oversee the performance management lifecycle and provide guidance, resources, and coaching to managers and employees throughout the process. Serve as an internal consultant on employee relations matters, providing guidance on HR policies, employment practices, and applicable employment laws. Conduct and/or oversee employee relations investigations as needed, including appropriate documentation, escalation, communication, and follow-up. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Coach and counsel managers on effective performance management, employee communications, documentation, and workplace matters. Partner with management on organizational changes, workforce planning, talent discussions, and succession planning. Partner with Talent Acquisition to support full-cycle recruitment for key positions, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, candidate assessment, and offer management. Develop and implement effective recruiting strategies to attract and retain top talent within the New York market. Support employee engagement initiatives, events, and programs designed to foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture. Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, policies, and programs as the organization continues to evolve. Assist with various day-to-day HR and office-related operational needs as appropriate. Prepare and provide HR data, reporting, and information to Finance and other internal stakeholders. Take ownership of special projects and initiatives that support broader organizational and HR objectives. Qualifications & Experience 8–10+ years of progressive HR experience , ideally within a fast-paced, dynamic organization. Strong understanding of HR operations and best practices, including employee relations, performance management, compensation, talent development, recruitment, and employee engagement . Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Demonstrated experience coaching and advising managers and employees across a variety of HR and workplace matters. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with employees and leaders at all levels. Strong problem-solving, influencing, and decision-making skills. Hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; strong Excel skills required . Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR is a plus.
