BBSI is looking for a hands-on Yard Technician to support our forklift attachment yard and service shop. This entry-level to intermediate role is responsible for moving and staging equipment with a forklift, preparing units through pressure washing and surface preparation, grinding and reshaping metal, performing basic mechanical and hydraulic work, spray painting, and supporting shipping and receiving. The right candidate has a sense of urgency, is thorough and detail-oriented, follows instructions closely, and is coachable — open to feedback and direction as they learn the trade. This is hands-on, physical work in a working shop and yard environment, and it gets dirty (grease, rust, metal shavings, paint overspray). This position trains directly under our technicians, with growth potential into a full mechanic or hydraulics technician role.

Key Responsibilities

Yard & Equipment Handling

• Safely operate a forklift to move, stage, and organize forklift attachments and equipment throughout the yard

• Pull attachments and equipment from the yard as needed for service, inspection, or shipping

• Keep the yard organized, clean, and safe

Surface Preparation & Metal Work

• Pressure wash attachments and equipment to remove dirt, grease, and buildup

• Grind metal surfaces to reshape components, and remove rust and old paint in preparation for repair or repainting

Perform surface prep and aerosol (spray can) painting of attachments and parts

Mechanical & Hydraulics

• Use hand tools (wrenches, sockets, etc.) to perform light mechanical work such as disassembly, reassembly, and basic repairs

• Connect and disconnect hydraulic hoses on attachments and equipment

• Flush hydraulic systems to remove contaminated fluid and debris

• Operate a hydraulic power unit (HPU) to test, cycle, and flush hydraulic components

• Assist technicians with more advanced hydraulic and mechanical repairs, learning proper procedures and safety practices

Shipping & Receiving

• Use a shipping bander to secure and prep attachments and pallets for shipment

• Stage, load, and unload pallets and attachments for outgoing and incoming trucks

• Support shipping and delivery logistics as needed

Qualifications

• Forklift driving experience and certification preferred, but not required — we will train

• Basic familiarity with hand tools and mechanical work

• Willingness to learn hydraulic systems and forklift attachment repair

• Strong sense of urgency paired with thorough, detail-oriented work

• Able to follow instructions closely and work well under supervision

• Coachable — receptive to feedback, correction, and ongoing training, and willing to adjust to get better at the job

• Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded

• Comfortable with dirty, physical work (grease, rust, metal shavings, paint) in a shop/yard setting

• Prior experience with forklift attachments, grinding, welding, painting, or hydraulics is a plus, but not required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional (non-regular) basis

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to safely wear PPE, including respirators/masks during grinding and painting tasks
