Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as prescribed. The role involves evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, educating patients on treatment procedures and equipment, and discharging patients with the necessary information for home care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various respiratory equipment and devices, including ventilators, oxygen, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using diverse methods.
• Monitor patient conditions with oximetry and capnography.
• Review chest x-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies as per policy.
• Assist in procedures related to respiratory care, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Conduct tracheostomy care and arterial punctures.
• Execute cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment and conduct quality control on laboratory procedures.
• Document patient treatments and responses in respiratory care records.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare teams regarding patient therapy.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Virginia state license as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in critical care settings preferred.
• Familiarity with various respiratory therapy practices and equipment.
