GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Buescher State Park Site Manager and daily direction of the Lead Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journeylevel) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for performing all phases of maintenance and repairs to facilities, equipment and grounds to include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanics at Buescher State Park, mainly on historic structures. Performs preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of public restrooms and rental facilities, including group facilities and fully furnished cabins. Performs all aspects of grounds keeping, habitat and trail management including, but not limited to trimming, weeding, mowing and herbicide/pesticide application in accordance with all State regulations. Operates and maintains all types of equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline and dieselpowered equipment. Assists with visitor services including providing customer service and information to park visitors. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

Three years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

Licensure:

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.

NOTE: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.


ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Experience:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of work site safety.

Knowledge of custodial duties.

Knowledge of standard construction repair and maintenance techniques; mainly on historic structures.

Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, mechanical, building accessories, and appliance maintenance and repair tasks.

Knowledge of natural and cultural resource management protection techniques.

Knowledge of basic mathematics.

Skill in the use, maintenance and repair of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with coworkers and workrelated contacts.

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

Ability to maintain all types of equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline and dieselpowered equipment.

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to produce electronic reports.

Ability to supervise alternative workforce.

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

Ability to perform manual labor such as lifting supplies and materials, up to 50 lbs.

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

Required to work 40 hours per week; includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

Required to respond to emergency situations and public service requests.

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

Required to operate a state vehicle.

Nonsmoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
