American Sign Language Interpreter (Part-Time) Location: Jenks Public Schools, Student Programs, Jenks, Oklahoma Posting Date: Aug 12, 2025 5:00 AM (UTC) Application Deadline: Posted until filled Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Position: American Sign Language Interpreter Reports to: Assistant Director of Student Programs Supervises: None Qualifications Satisfy the Oklahoma Educational Interpreter for the Deaf Act requirements by demonstrating interpersonal skills, general knowledge of academic subjects, educational processes, special education principles, and understanding of deaf culture. Meet one or more of the following: Completed an interpreter training program Obtained a Bachelor's degree Worked three (3) or more years in an area related to deaf education, including interpreting in non-educational settings such as a church. Attain at least one of the following certifications: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Level IV Certification or better Oklahoma Quality Assurance Screening Test (QAST) Level III or better Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Level 3.5 or better for elementary or secondary Educational Sign Skills Evaluation (ESSE) Level 3.5 or better Maintain current eligibility and registration on the Oklahoma Educational Interpreter Registry. Satisfy all district requirements regarding physical health and citizenship. Board of Education alternatives may be accepted. Position Goal Provide effective and qualified interpretation services between students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and others in the educational environment to assist equitable communication access as per federal and state guidelines. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Interpret all interactions, activities, materials, assessments, abiding by state/federal guidelines, RID/NAD Code of Professional Conduct, and NAIE Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics. Collaborate and participate in development and implementation of the assigned student’s IEP or 504 as a related service provider. Match language and communication needs of the student(s) and situation. Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding accessibility of curriculum, activities, environment. Maintain interpreter observations and applicable student records. Prepare for interpreting by reviewing course materials and researching as needed. Participate in ongoing training as applicable. Perform all other duties as assigned. Employment Terms Nine (9) months classified hourly contract. FLSA Qualification: Non-Exempt Evaluation: Jenks Public Schools Classified Evaluation Physical Demands Regular requirements: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of fingers and hands. Occasional requirements: reach overhead, above shoulder, horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds. Visual requirements: close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus. Hearing/Speaking requirements: adequate to exchange information.
