Job Title: HVAC Service Technician Job Description

This role focuses on performing HVAC and refrigeration service calls for commercial customers. You will visit multiple sites each day, communicate clearly with customers, accurately diagnose system issues, and complete high-quality repairs on a wide range of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform 3–6 HVAC and refrigeration service calls per day at commercial locations such as restaurants, convenience stores, markets, and other commercial buildings.

• Communicate professionally with customers to understand their concerns, explain findings, and discuss recommended repairs.

• Diagnose issues with HVAC systems, including rooftop units up to 25 tons, air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust systems, compressors, and related equipment.

• Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems, including fractional horsepower refrigeration equipment, using appropriate tools and techniques.

• Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics to support accurate troubleshooting and repairs.

• Perform electrical testing and diagnostics on HVAC and refrigeration systems to identify faults and verify proper operation.

• Handle and work with refrigerants and refrigeration systems in a safe and compliant manner.

• Document all work performed using electronic dispatch tools, including entering service details and uploading photos of repairs.

• Drive to and from job sites safely while maintaining a valid and clean driving record.

• Use personal tools and equipment to complete service and repair tasks efficiently and safely.

• Participate in on-call rotations, including weekend work, and respond to service calls as dispatched.

• Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous, customer-focused service at all times.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of HVAC service experience, including troubleshooting, performing corrective repairs, and communicating repair details to customers.

• Experience working on commercial HVAC systems, with a preference for 5 years of commercial experience (candidates with less experience may still be considered).

• Hands-on experience servicing rooftop units (RTUs) up to 25 tons, air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and compressors.

• Strong troubleshooting skills for HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration components.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical diagrams.

• Experience working with refrigeration systems, including fractional horsepower refrigeration equipment.

• Proficiency in electrical testing and diagnostics for HVAC and refrigeration systems.

• Valid and clean driving record suitable for operating a company vehicle.

• Ability to use computers or smartphones for electronic dispatch, documenting services performed, and uploading photos of repairs.

• Ownership of a basic set of HVAC service tools suitable for field service work.

• Strong customer service and communication skills to explain issues and repairs clearly to customers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience servicing HVAC systems in commercial environments such as restaurants, convenience stores, markets, and other commercial buildings.

• Willingness to learn additional refrigeration skills beyond fractional horsepower systems.

• Comfort working independently in the field while managing multiple service calls per day.

• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to a busy service schedule.

• Attention to detail in documenting work performed and following dispatch procedures.

Work Environment

You will primarily work in commercial environments, including restaurants, convenience stores, markets, and other commercial buildings. The role involves traveling between customer sites throughout the day and working both indoors and outdoors, depending on equipment location. You will use electronic dispatch systems on a computer or smartphone to receive assignments, document services, and upload photos. The position requires regular use of mechanical and electrical tools, as well as personal HVAC service tools. Hours include standard service days with the possibility of on-call and weekend work. A professional appearance is expected while working in customer-facing environments and representing the company on-site.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Clemens, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
