Senior Associate Attorney – Employment Advice & Counsel VZN LLP, a seven-attorney business law firm in Southern California, is seeking an experienced, self-directed employment attorney to join its employment practice as a Senior Associate. This role is focused on employment advice-and-counsel and transactional work. Clients range from local brick-and-mortar businesses of all sizes to national startups and emerging companies. California-licensed attorneys with 5–10 years of employment law experience are encouraged to apply. Position Overview Our ideal candidate brings 5–10 years of broad, sophisticated employment law experience and wants a practice built on counseling and transactional work. You will serve as a trusted advisor to founders, executives, and HR teams, handling matters independently from intake through resolution. Typical work includes: Advising clients on employment policies, practices, and day-to-day HR issues Statutory and regulatory compliance, with an emphasis on California wage-and-hour and leave law Drafting and negotiating employment, consulting, separation, and severance agreements Preparing and updating employee handbooks and workplace policies Advising on hiring, discipline, terminations, reductions in force, and worker classification Supporting the firm's corporate team on the employment aspects of financings and M&A The role offers significant direct client contact and the opportunity to grow a book and expand into other practice areas within the firm. Successful VZN LLP attorneys are organized, strategic, and comfortable working on tight deadlines . Qualifications 5+ years of employment law experience, with a substantial advice-and-counsel or transactional component Strong academic credentials Exceptional written and verbal communication and legal drafting skills Ability to manage a client docket independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision High level of motivation, initiative, and a strong work ethic Preferred: based in or near Los Angeles; experience advising startups or multi-location businesses Pay: $175,000–$275,000 base salary annually. This is the presently anticipated low and high ends of VZN's pay range for this position. Actual base pay will depend on experience, location, and tiered billing targets. Additional compensation, including performance-based bonuses, may be available.
