Principal Engineer

Backed by a major non-profit healthcare consortium, our client is a newly formed, well-funded healthcare technology spin-off on a mission to fix a fundamentally broken industry. We are building the universal operating system for healthcare—an AI-native, event-driven platform connecting payers, providers, and patients. This isn't about maintaining legacy systems; it's about building a disruptive, intelligent data hub from the ground up within a modern, enterprise-scale Microsoft/Azure ecosystem. As a Principal Engineer within the Commercialization organization, you are building the revenue-generating engine of the company. You will architect the market-facing products, enterprise APIs, and multi-tenant SaaS environments that will convince the largest payers and providers in the country to migrate to our platform.

Pay Rate: $85 – $100/hr

Duration: 6-month contract-to-hire

Location: Hybrid; 2x/week in office — San Diego, Long Beach, Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, or Oakland (SF Bay Area)

The focus is on:

• Node.js; TypeScript backend systems

• Modern frontend frameworks (React preferred)

• Cloud-native development on Azure

• Multi-tenant SaaS and API-driven platforms

Responsibilities

• • Design and build scalable, cloud-native applications using Node.js and TypeScript (this is a coding-heavy role).
  • Develop backend services, APIs, and frontend components (React), ensuring performance and scalability.
  • Build secure, high-scale enterprise APIs and integration layers (experience with API gateways, event-driven systems).
  • Work within Azure using Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, Terraform to deploy and scale applications.
  • Write production quality code, enforce best practices, and contribute to CI/CD and DevSecOps standards.
  • Incorporate technologies like Azure OpenAI and real-time data streaming into the platform.
  • Guide engineers through code reviews and best practices but remain deeply involved in coding.

Qualifications

• • 10+ years of software engineering experience

  • Strong experience as a hands-on Senior/Staff/Principal engineer (not just architecture)

  • Node.js and TypeScript

  • Strong frontend experience with React (preferred)

  • Deep experience building APIs and backend services

  • Experience with cloud-native development in Azure

  • Hands-on with: Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)

  System Design & Platform Experience

  • Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms

  • Strong understanding of data isolation, scalability, and system design

  • Experience with event-driven architecture and integrations

  - Nice to Have

  • Azure OpenAI / AI integration

  • API gateways / MuleSoft

  • Healthcare or regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC2)
