CONGREGATION OF DIVINE PROVIDENCE

HOLY FAMILY HOME

Summary: The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing health care for Sister residents in the Holy Family Retirement Residence, the Health Care Center and other Sisters who require health care services short term in the Health Care Center. She develops and implements a quality health care program that meets the needs of each Sister on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis.

The Director of Nursing creates a climate of mutual trust and respect among staff and residents, recognizing the importance of caring relationships in our facility, which is our Sisters’ home. In addition to the overall responsibilities, the Director is a working member of the Nursing Staff and will from time-to-time work “on the floor” on all shifts, in a nursing capacity and perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: The Director of Nursing will be a graduate of an accredited RN program, BSN required, MSN preferred, and have a current, active license to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky. A minimum of 10 years nursing practice including 5 years’ experience in long-term care and three-five years’ supervisory and managerial experience is preferred. Respect for the Catholic Faith, commitment to Gospel values, and belief in the mission of the Sisters of Divine Providence is required.

Knowledge and Skills: The Director of Nursing will have knowledge of current nursing and long-term care principles and procedures. She should be informed about new nursing developments, policies, procedures, and methods that relate to geriatric nursing care, and she upholds the philosophy of Person-Centered Care. She must be a nurse leader, possess supervisory and management ability, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, other Department Directors of Holy Family Home and the leadership of the Sisters of Divine Providence.

• desire and ability to establish therapeutic relationships with the Sister residents

• excellent writing skills and communication skills with outside providers

Responsibilities: Responsible for following safety procedures.

 

Administrative

• coordinate all health and wellness services
• direct the licensed and non-licensed healthcare staff
• provide a program for on-going staff development
• identify systems and interventions to improve care and care delivery
• represent the Nursing Staff on the coordinating team of Holy Family Home
• be available for consultation about healthcare needs with the hospital, physicians/providers, and other collaborating agencies such as hospice
• oversee medical records
• provide additional assistance and service to members of the Province as needed

· responsible for providing safety training for all staff in the department

Personnel

• assess staffing needs; recruit, interview, hire/orient as needed
• schedule nursing staff to guarantee 24 hour/7 day a week shift coverage
• prepare and discuss annual written evaluation with each staff member
• work to assure good morale among staff by providing a pleasant work environment through regular team meetings where information is shared and new ideas are solicited

Accounting

• order and purchase equipment and supplies
• arrange for repairs of equipment and supplies
• work with Administrator of Holy Family Home and the Provincial Treasurer to prepare the annual operational budget and a capital expenditure plan

PROFESSIONAL UPDATING: The Director of Nursing will keep up-to-date professionally on topics which would improve her skills and services as Director.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Nursing is responsible to the Administrator of Operations
