Bachelor Tune and Repair Shop Lead, under the guidance of the Rentals Manager, is responsible for leading a team that delivers exceptional ski and snowboard tuning and repair services in a safe and efficient environment. This includes providing high-quality tunes, maintaining efficient service turnaround times, and completing binding mounts, adjustments, and required documentation in accordance with ASTM guidelines, all while ensuring an outstanding guest experience. The Tune and Repair Shop Lead must possess modern knowledge of ski and snowboard tuning techniques, understand the evolution of equipment technology, and be proficient with both manual tuning tools and shop machinery, including the safe operation of all power equipment. Experience mounting skis and servicing snowboard bindings is required. A core responsibility of this role is training and developing Tune and Repair Shop employees across all aspects of shop operations, including tuning services, repairs, equipment maintenance, machine upkeep, and safety procedures. In collaboration with the Rentals Manager, the Lead is responsible for establishing and reinforcing a strong safety culture, ensuring proper PPE use and safe handling of machines, chemicals, hand tools, and power tools are prioritised by all team members. This role operates in partnership with and under the oversight of the Rentals Manager and Supervisors, working closely with rental operations leadership to align on priorities, staffing, and service standards. The Tune and Repair Shop Lead is responsible for ensuring guests, employees, and rentals, including demo equipment, receive regular tuning and maintenance, and may assist with broader rental operations as business needs require. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and a collaborative approach across departments are essential. The role involves extended periods of standing, bending, pushing, and reaching in an indoor environment. Essential Duties & Major Responsibilities Lead and train Tune and Repair Shop employees on all aspects of tuning operations, including machine operation, safety procedures, cleaning, maintenance, and achieving high-quality results. Maintain advanced ski and snowboard repair skills including, but not limited to: base repairs, edge repairs, delamination repair, base flattening, base structuring, edge tuning, waxing, binding repair, binding testing, and binding installation. Provide ongoing training of Tune and Repair Shop employees on tuning techniques, repair services, product knowledge, and shop procedures. Maintain a clean and efficient shop environment, organising the Tune and Repair workspace to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of tuning services. Provide technical expertise and support to guests, employees, and key mountain departments including Patrol and Ski & Ride School. Perform and oversee proper ski binding mounts and adjustments in accordance with ASTM standards, including required documentation and liability procedures. Intake guest equipment, evaluate service needs, recommend appropriate services, and document work based on equipment condition, guest ability level, and mountain conditions. Manage daily workload and ensure the Tune and Repair Shop team maintains organized workflows and service prioritisation. Ensure quality control on all services performed within the Tune and Repair Shop. Calculate and apply appropriate labour charges for additional repair services. Facilitate an informative equipment return process by explaining services performed and proper equipment function to guests. Perform regular rental fleet inspections and complete maintenance services as requested by the Rental Manager or Rental Supervisors. Operate POS software and registers accurately and train Tune and Repair Shop employees on correct usage. Ensure all tune services are properly processed and paid for unless authorised by management. Facilitate ASTM testing, ensure shop employees maintain current binding manufacturer certifications, and provide certification support for rental technicians as needed. Assist with tuning rental and demo equipment and guide Tune and Repair Shop employees on proper maintenance of rental products. Complete daily closing procedures including shop cleanup, POS reconciliation, and cash deposit drops when required. Maintain accurate timekeeping and ensure Tune and Repair Shop employees follow appropriate rest breaks and time clock procedures. In collaboration with the Rentals Manager, build and manage labour schedules aligned with business levels and budget. Maintain communication with management regarding machine maintenance, supply needs, and operational improvements. Perform routine machine cleaning, maintenance, and record keeping. Drive work vehicles when necessary to transport rental equipment between locations as needed. Serve as a key holder and open or close the rental and Tune and Repair Shop when required. Follow ASTM protocol for incident documentation involving guest equipment when necessary. Maintain the physical ability to stand for extended shifts and perform manual shop tasks. Operational Expectations Accept support and collaborate with management and supervisors to achieve Tune and Repair Shop and mountain-wide operational goals. Maintain adherence to work schedules, including required breaks and lunches, while adjusting workflow during busiest portions of the day. Ensure clear differentiation between standard tunes and top-shelf tunes so guests receive the service level they purchased. Adapt to new equipment, tuning machines, and evolving tuning techniques. Consistently follow and enforce PPE usage and safety procedures when operating equipment or handling chemicals. Assist with binding mounts and adjustments as needed, including services associated with retail operations. Ensure all tuning services, including those for employees, patrol, and athletes, are processed through POS using payments or vouchers for payment. Train and mentor Tune and Repair Shop employees and demonstrate patience and professionalism when guiding employees within the department. Maintain clear boundaries within the Tune and Repair Shop by ensuring only approved, scheduled, and clocked-in employees are present in the workspace. Follow proper purchasing procedures and coordinate with management for ordering tools, equipment, and supplies. Assist with shop organization and workflow improvements to maximise efficiency and productivity. Support collaboration between the Tune and Repair Shop, rental operations, retail, ski school, patrol, and guest services to improve overall mountain operations. Balance personal activities, such as ride breaks, with operational needs and business demands. Secondary Function Provide Ski and Snowboard technician assistance to the Rental operation when needed, including snow removal projects, moving ski racks, and completing other assigned tasks. Assist with leading rental employees when directed, and support opening and closing of rental and Tune and Repair Shop operations. Lead Responsibilities Number of employees: 5-6 Positions supervised: Repair Tech 1 Scheduling and assigning work: In collaboration with Rental Manager, delegation of duties within shop team. Training: All applicable POS, binding, ski, and snowboard repair/adjustment/tuning and triage. Disciplinary actions: In collaboration with Rental Manager Performance review: In collaboration with Rental Manager Interpersonal Contacts: Guests, Instructors, Ski Patrol, and Fellow Employees. Specific Job Skills License/Certification: Valid Driver’s license required, for occasional use of company vehicles. Readily available and reliable transportation is required to work onsite daily. Ability to pass all necessary binding certifications. Technical: Understand and perform modern ski tuning techniques. Expertise with software like RTP|ONE is desirable. Physical Capabilities: Able to push, pick up, and drag 70 lbs. Additional: Must have experience with or functional knowledge of the following equipment: Alpine skis & boots, Alpine Touring skis & boots, Telemark skis & boots, Alpine snowboards, and Splitboards. Education/Related Experience Minimum Education: High School or Equivalent Required. Minimum time in related position: 3+ seasons/years as tuning/repair shop employee with understanding and expertise in guest service.
