Starting Wage Range: $58,718 – $61,069 per year

Qualifications: Education: Master's degree or bachelor's degree (licensing grandfathered) in Occupational Therapy from a recognized or accredited institution. Must possess state registration as a licensed Occupational Therapist. Physical Therapists will also qualify. Experience: Lived experience with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders valued. Experience working with wheelchairs and adaptive equipment preferred. Other: Strong communication skills and functional computer literacy skills are required. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the agency.
Summary Of Responsibilities: The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for providing assessment, plan development, and program recommendations to restore or improve individual's physical functioning and mental wellbeing. The OT will focus on enabling individuals served to re-engage in meaningful occupations through a variety of skillsets. The OT will evaluate individuals served and develop programs based on client factors, performance skills, environment, and performance patterns. Conducts routine visits with individuals served in both independent and dependent settings. Facilitates recreational and occupational activities within home setting. Provides monitoring, therapy, and training for individuals (and their caregivers) receiving OT services.
Essential Job Functions: Provides evaluations and re-evaluations including recommendations based on direct interview and observation, gathers data, reviews history, systems, tests and measures to establish the diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care, designed to restore or improve a client's physical functioning and mental wellbeing. Provides individual therapy using various therapeutic procedures and techniques to produce changes in the conditions that are consistent with the diagnosis and prognosis. Works with case management to recommend, and procure if directed, appropriate assistive devices and durable medical equipment to improve the client's physical functioning. Provides wheelchair evaluation with client and assistive technology professional including wheelchair delivery and fitting to the client. Writes letters of medical necessity for wheelchair procurement including repairs, replacement parts, and completes all required Medicaid and DME paperwork. Monitors on-going fit and function of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment including, as needed, trials of new and different attachments to improve fit and posture and conducts minor wheelchair repairs. Participates at individual planning meetings, developments or refines the client's Individual Plan of Service, and discharge planning convey observations, concerns, and feedback. Reviews all pertinent written records to gather information for the assessment. Consults with treatment team, client/guardian, client family members, and other individuals as indicated to obtain all necessary information to complete the assessment. Recommends treatments and exercises specific to the needs of the individual. Updates and evaluates client's progress. Learns new information regarding treatment of intellectually and/or developmentally disabled consumers through self-training, reading, in-service, or conferences. Provides complete and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, bend, stand, sit, lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance, stretch/reach, hear, see, hand/finger dexterity and drive a vehicle. Position requires physical ability to complete and maintain certification in CPI techniques which will be a training class provided to the job incumbent. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions in accordance with applicable laws.
Other Requirements: Must be current in Adult CPR and First Aid; provided by NCCMH. Complete initial training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI); provided by NCCMH. Have own phone for communication and reliable access to messages and multi-factoring capabilities. Have reliable transportation in carrying out agency duties. Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Ability to work within guidelines of the code of conduct, regulatory compliance plan and personnel policies. Supports a philosophy of service delivery that is recovery-based, person centered and culturally competent. Adhere to applicable policies and procedures as required by Department of Health and Human Services, North Country CMH Board, and other pertinent regulatory agencies. Proficient with Microsoft Windows and the Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel; and can maneuver on the Internet to conduct research or obtain information, including EHR and video conferencing.
