Position Summary
The AML/CFT Analyst I is responsible for monitoring, investigating, and reporting potential money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, and suspicious activity. This role supports the bank’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti Money Laundering (AML) regulations, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements, and internal policies. The analyst conducts reviews, analyzes customer activity, prepares regulatory filings, and supports fraud and compliance initiatives across the institution. This position is ideal for an early-career professional or someone transitioning into financial operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Review and investigate daily AML, Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and fraud alerts generated through BAM+ and other transaction monitoring systems to identify potentially suspicious or unusual activity.
- Analyze customer transactions across multiple banking channels, including deposits, debit cards, ACH, wires, mobile deposits, checks, ATMs, and cash activity to detect money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, and related financial crimes.
- Identify unusual activity patterns such as structuring, rapid movement of funds, funnel activity, mule behavior, elder financial exploitation, and anomalous transaction behavior.
- Conduct full scope AML/CFT investigations by reviewing customer profiles, historical and current activity, expected account behavior, and relevant risk indicators.
- Apply regulatory guidance, typologies, and internal procedures to determine whether activity warrants escalation or suspicious reporting.
- Prepare, document, and file complete and timely Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with clear narratives and supporting analysis in accordance with regulatory deadlines.
- Perform initial OFAC screening and monitoring, research potential matches, and escalate findings for further review as required.
- Support bi weekly Section 314(a) information sharing reviews and document results in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Complete Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews for higher risk customers, including verification of customer occupation, business purpose, beneficial ownership, anticipated activity, and risk profile.
- Review and validate Customer Identification Program (CIP) documentation, track CIP exceptions, and support timely remediation in compliance with internal policy and regulatory standards.
- Review large cash transactions to ensure accurate aggregation and assist with the preparation and filing of Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) within required timeframes.
- Analyze cash activity reports and detailed listings to identify unusual or high risk cash behavior requiring escalation or further investigation.
- Identify and escalate potential elder financial abuse or other vulnerable customer exploitation concerns to management and appropriate internal teams.
- Respond to subpoenas, law enforcement requests, and Adult Protective Services (APS) inquiries in accordance with custody of records and confidentiality requirements.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and well documented case files to support regulatory examinations, audits, and internal quality assurance reviews.
- Maintain logs and tracking reports related to SARs, CTRs, monitoring alerts, and CIP exceptions.
- Collaborate with Fraud Prevention, Operations, Compliance, and branch staff to resolve alerts, mitigate risk, and support enterprise wide AML and fraud initiatives.
- Assist with AML, CFT, and fraud related training and guidance for staff as needed.
- Identify emerging financial crime trends, typologies, or potential control gaps and escalate observations to management.
- Ensure all AML/CFT activities comply with BSA, AML, OFAC regulations, FFIEC guidance, and internal policies and procedures.
- Additional duties/tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in banking, BSA/AML, fraud, compliance, or a related financial services role preferred; relevant education or training may be considered in lieu of direct experience.
- Working knowledge of BSA/AML and Counter Terrorist Financing regulations, including OFAC requirements, with the ability to learn and apply regulatory guidance and internal policies.

- Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fraud detection/monitoring systems.
