JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: GRE Molder Level 1
Department: Production
Reports To: Production Manager

SUMMARY
The purpose of this role and job function is to Molds parts of GRE (Glass-Reinforced Epoxy) , using hand and automatic machinery . Your role is integral to our production processes, where precision and attention to detail are critical.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is a framework of the essential duties and responsibilities for this role. Other responsibilities and/or duties may be assigned according to business need.
- Reading work orders, drawings, and BIRNS manufacturing procedures, selects and assembles correct tooling (mold) sections for the item to be molded.
- Prepares electrical contacts and/or other items for insertion into the mold. Attaches them (as necessary) to wires or cable. Inserts contacts into the mold.
- Properly installs mold into molding press. Injects mold with GRE molding material. Applies correct combination of molding variables (clamp pressure, injection pressure, temperature, time, etc.) to molding press to derive good results. Records applied molding variables.
- Removes molded items from press. Performs preliminary quality control check; records quantity of, and reasons for, any rejected parts.
- Removes excess material from molded parts. Performs second operations (e.g., post-curing) as needed.
- Cleans and maintains tooling and equipment as needed. Replaces tooling in proper tool crib.
- Performs other related work, e.g., preparing and soldering cable wires to connectors.
- Records time spent on each operation for job costing purposes. Brings ideas for procedural improvement to supervisor's attention.
- Assists in inventory control of molding materials and supplies.
- Provides support as needed for other factory requirements, e.g., assembly, warehouse, etc.

Develop innovative solutions to complex molding challenges, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide guidance to other team members in resolving issues.

Support process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization within the production process.
Training and Mentorship:
Support with training junior production technicians, providing guidance and training to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of molding and manufacturing.
Quality Control Enhancement:
Complete advanced quality control measures, including advanced quality audits, to maintain the highest standards of product quality.
Project Support:
Take on a support role in specific projects, supporting in production to ensure project success.
Tooling Preparation:
Read work orders, drawings, and BIRNS manufacturing procedures to select and assemble the correct tooling (mold) sections for the item to be molded.
Molding Operations:
Inject the mold with GRE molding material. Apply the correct combination of molding variables, including clamp pressure, injection pressure, temperature, time, etc., to achieve optimal results. Record applied molding variables.
Quality Control:
Perform a preliminary quality control check, recording the quantity of, and reasons for, any rejected parts. Follow technician documents / customer requirements and ensure all standards are achieved
Second Operations:
Perform secondary operations as needed, such as Deflashing, Repair etc.
Equipment Maintenance:
Clean and maintain tooling and equipment as needed.
Diverse Tasks:
Perform other related work, such as preparing and soldering cable wires to connectors. Be cross-trained on two or more specialized production departments’ tasks including cable preparation
Time Tracking:
Record the time spent on each operation for job costing purposes. Bring ideas for procedural improvement to the supervisor's attention.
Inventory Management:
Assist in inventory control of molding materials and supplies.
Versatile Support:
Provide support as needed for other factory requirements, including assembly, warehouse, and more.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill and/or Aptitude required. Educational Background: High-school diploma or equivalent, and three years of related technical experience and/or training.
Molding Expertise: Three to five years of molding (or similar discipline) experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills: Ability to read wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and blueprints.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Educational Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years of related manufacturing environment experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Written Communication: Ability to write simple correspondence.
Effective Presentation: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Mathematical Competence: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of time, pressure, temperature, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Problem-Solving: Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel mold tooling and small electrical contacts.
• Reach with hands and arms to place/replace the molds into the molding plates or tool crib.
• Have Color vision and good eyesight for detailed processes
• Occasionally stoop to access lower-level shelves.
• Talk or hear the "open" timers used to signal the end of the mold cycle.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move tooling and components weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move items (e.g., mold blocks or cables) weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for mold assembly, color vision for quality checks, and depth perception during installation of molds into the molding plates or tool crib.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to various chemicals and moderate heat from the molding plates. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, consisting primarily of a vacuum pump and pressurized air nozzles.
