Trades Technician III – Housing HVAC Repair Technician Position Number: 01431A | Department: Housing Maintenance | Location: Norfolk, VA | Class: Classified, Full Time Position Summary Maintain all heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and associated equipment at a journeyman level. Operate the energy management control system efficiently. This role is designated as essential personnel for emergency closings and may be required to respond to after‑hours calls. Responsibilities Perform maintenance and repair of institutional HVAC equipment, including PTAC, geothermal, and boiler systems. Operate and troubleshoot HVAC systems using appropriate tools and diagnostic procedures. Read and interpret blueprints and maintenance documents. Respond to after‑hours calls as essential personnel during non‑work hours. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Extensive knowledge of HVAC operations, problem solving for heating, air conditioning, geothermal, and ventilation equipment. Special Licenses & Certifications: Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record; Virginia Journeyman mechanical license; completion of refrigerant transition and recovery course and tests; certified for Type Universal. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Extensive heating, ventilating, air conditioning, boiler equipment repair and maintenance. Additional Considerations: None beyond those listed. Conditions of Employment In‑person reporting to campus. Telework is not eligible. Employees may be required to work during university closings.
