Athletic Trainer

Athletic Trainer Cannon County School District Central Office – Woodbury, Tennessee Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee the entire sports medicine program for all student athletes. Establish specific hours on a daily basis when student athletes in need of the trainer’s services can receive proper treatment. Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to student athletes. Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individualized exercise programs for rehabilitation. Serve as liaison between physicians/medical personnel, student athletes, parents, and coaching staff on participation restrictions, surgery, rehabilitation, etc. Maintain communication with parents on care and treatment of their student athlete. Serve as a resource for the coaching staff on protective equipment. Assist with injury prevention including education of student athletes, identifying at‑risk factors, correcting deficiencies, applying taping, protective devices, and braces. Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to physicians or specialists when appropriate. Treat athletic injuries with protection, rest, ice, compression, evaluation, support, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy as needed or prescribed. Make decisions based on National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) guidelines. Maintain a record of all injuries and a daily treatment log; file necessary reports. Secure training room equipment and supplies as needed. Attend and monitor Cannon County High School team practices and sporting events. Provide access to training room facilities and medical attention to students from district schools. Additional Duties and Responsibilities Summer Months Attend all high school football practices, scrimmages, and on‑site summer camps. Attend all high school basketball practices, scrimmages, and on‑site summer camps. Monitor heat index and lightning, notify head coaches of any practice/game adjustments and keep a record. Year Round Track and maintain all documentation required for a student athlete to become eligible for participation. Track the required annual training for coaches on concussion and sudden cardiac arrest. Develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for all high school sports. Conduct an annual workshop for all coaches in the prevention, identification, and treatment of injuries. Attend all high school football and basketball practices/games at home and away. Attend all home events for other sports in season; varsity football supersedes other home events. Serve as liaison with other trainers on coverage for tournaments and other events. Attend post‑season and home‑hosted contests as directed by the athletic director. Provide information and assistance to school nurses, educators, and administrators on concussions and other injuries that may affect learning and trigger the need for a 504 plan. Assist coaching staff to ensure no safety issues with student athlete equipment. Provide assistance and be available via walkie‑talkie or cell phone to student athletes and coaches during practice sessions when not physically present. Supervise cleanliness and upkeep of training room and all equipment. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools, Principal, and/or Athletic Director. Physical Demands The job may require lifting objects that exceed 40 pounds and carrying objects up to 20 pounds; moving athletic equipment may be required. Adaptability to make generalizations, evaluations or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Capacity and Ability Requirements Ability to schedule events and follow all policies. Terms of Employment Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Eleven‑month position, including 20 days during summer. Weekly schedule determined by the athletic director; can vary per season. Attendance is essential. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the athletic director in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of classified Personnel. General Requirements Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements set by NATA, Tennessee Board of Athletic Trainers Examiners, CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care certification, and a valid Tennessee driver’s license. Stay abreast of current trends and training techniques by regularly attending professional development. Attend all professional development required for CCBOE employees, including equity training, suicide training, child abuse reporting, BBP training, and others as determined.
