Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Primary CareThe Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing exceptional clinical support to Primary Care providers while delivering outstanding patient-centered care. This role assists physicians and advanced practice providers with patient flow, clinical procedures, documentation, patient education, preventive care, and coordination of services to ensure efficient clinic operations.The CMA serves as a key member of the healthcare team by maintaining high standards of quality, patient safety, professionalism, and operational excellence while supporting organizational goals and performance metrics.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient CarePrepare examination rooms prior to patient arrival.Escort patients to exam rooms promptly.Obtain and accurately document:Vital signsHeight and weightBMIPain assessmentMedication reconciliationAllergiesTobacco useDepression screening (PHQ)Fall RiskSocial Determinants of Health (as applicable)Record comprehensive patient history.Prepare patients for provider examination.Assist providers during examinations and procedures.Perform point-of-care testing.Collect specimens according to policy.Administer injections as ordered.Perform EKGs.Perform CLIA-waived testing.Perform hearing and vision screenings.Perform ear lavages.Remove sutures/staples when ordered.Perform wound care as directed.Prepare and sterilize instruments.Maintain exam room cleanliness and stock supplies.Clinical DocumentationAccurately document all patient care in eClinicalWorks.Ensure provider documentation is complete before patient departure.Enter pending orders as directed.Prepare prescription refill requests.Process referrals.Process imaging orders.Prepare laboratory orders.Ensure all documentation meets quality standards.Care CoordinationCoordinate referrals.Assist with prior authorizations.Coordinate laboratory and imaging appointments.Follow up on outstanding orders.Communicate results as directed by the provider.Assist with chronic disease management.Support preventive care initiatives.Medication AdministrationSafely administer medications according to provider orders, including:Intramuscular injectionsSubcutaneous injectionsIntradermal injectionsTherapeutic injectionsVaccinationsBiologic medications (when trained)Medication inventory managementVaccine managementCold chain monitoringPreventive CareSupport quality initiatives including:Annual Wellness VisitsMedicare Wellness VisitsChronic Care ManagementTransitional Care ManagementPreventive screeningsImmunization complianceCare gap closureQuality ResponsibilitiesMaintain compliance with:OSHAHIPAAInfection PreventionCLIACompany policiesClinical protocolsSupport organizational quality initiatives including:HEDISSTAR MeasuresProvider quality metricsDocumentation accuracyCustomer ServiceDeliver compassionate patient-centered care.Maintain professionalism with patients and coworkers.Demonstrate excellent communication.Resolve patient concerns appropriately.Maintain patient confidentiality.Required Knowledge & SkillsMedical terminologyAnatomy & physiologyInfection controlMedication administrationElectronic Medical Records (eClinicalWorks preferred)Google Workspace / Microsoft OfficeCPR/BLSPhlebotomy (preferred)Excellent communication skillsTime managementCritical thinkingMultitaskingTeam collaborationPerformance ExpectationsMedical Assistants are expected to consistently meet organizational standards including:Accurate room preparationComplete medication reconciliationTimely patient roomingDocumentation accuracyOrder completionReferral completionImaging coordinationLab coordinationPatient satisfactionProvider satisfactionTimely inbox managementQuality metric completionAttendance and reliabilityMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.Minimum one (1) year of Primary Care experience preferred.Current BLS Certification required (or obtained within 90 days of hire).Certification RequirementCertification is preferred at the time of hire.
