Transmission Data Consultant

Position Summary Operations assesses & manages the performance of assets and systems for electric generation, gas, and electric transmission/distribution systems. Data systems that support data capture, extraction, analysis and reporting for regulatory, compliance and business planning requirements are critical. This position leads the program development, implementation, and management to capture, maintain and analyze data and work processes supporting the business needs of Operations. It also enhances processes while ensuring data accuracy and consistency for both operational and regulatory requirements across Xcel Energy, serving as the Subject Matter Expert on reliability data capture/analysis/reporting and business process development for maintenance and tracking of asset data and system performance. The primary liaison to Business Systems focuses on analysis, development and implementation of data/business systems driven by regulatory compliance and corporate policies. Essential Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of technology, information systems and strategies targeted at the maintenance and tracking of assets, ensuring compliance with all regulatory, business and customer requirements. Serve as liaison to other Operations organizations and regulatory and business systems groups regarding reliability data quality and corporate/regulatory reporting. Lead the prioritization and management of business requirements related to new information systems projects and major enhancements or replacements for existing systems related to reliability and operational system management. Manage the prioritization process for systems projects, prepare regulatory, business and financial justification, and ensure integration with corporate strategic plans, budgets, regulatory requirements and financial projections. Examine existing information systems and determine necessary system and software configuration changes to meet regulatory and business requirements. Oversee development and maintenance of project tracking tools and provide guidance for data system enhancements supporting asset capture, maintenance and tracking. Provide confidential internal consulting to Operations management on regulatory and business functions and the information systems needed to support those functions. Serve as the primary technology resource supporting the analysis, development, testing and implementation of current and future data system applications used by the Operations organization. Support reliability and system modernization efforts by discovering opportunities in statistical and predictive analytics, transforming data into actionable information with appropriate business context. Investigate complex data structures, validate accuracy, and stratify results to provide meaningful insights and key messages. Act as the key Subject Matter Expert with Operations personnel and senior management, understanding business challenges and forging partnerships for problem solving. Offer suggestions for improvement, clarify data requirements, manage expectations, and enhance the organization’s credibility and transparency. Provide direction and guidance to staff as needed, supervise other staff, and ensure analytical and reporting responsibilities have trained backups. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Math, Finance, Statistics or related scientific fields (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 5‑7 years of experience demonstrating mastery in database structures, application debugging, query and report building, data analysis, data research, data quality review, requirements development, flowcharting, and data graphing/presentation. Experience in technical data system development and advanced analysis with related experience in data management, analysis or statistics. Experience as a business area liaison for IT development. Process documentation experience for training and consistent application. Advanced knowledge of utility operations and related system applications. Knowledge of Business Objects and Minitab. In‑depth knowledge of gas and electric utility design, construction, system operations and safety methods. Strong organizational/time‑management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently with minimal supervision while meeting schedules and deadlines. Strong communication skills and assertiveness to ask insightful questions and learn industry‑specific terminology. Preferred Requirements Knowledge and understanding of working with SAP. Utility business experience.
