Chief Nursing Officer

Job Summary Administrative and executive responsibility for patient care and clinical oversight of nursing throughout the organization. Serves as member of the Executive Team, hospital committees and medical staff committees. Participates in Strategic Planning for the organization and leads the strategic development, planning, and delivery of patient care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Assumes responsibility for the house-wide Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Initiatives. As Chief Nursing Officer, provide leadership to establish the vision for nursing.

A variety of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity to plan, problem solve multifaceted issues, interpret assessments, draw conclusions and take or recommend action within a reasonable amount of time. Accuracy is essential and decisions are rarely subject to check.
Essential Functions
- As a member of the Medical Center Executive Team, works collaboratively with other senior leaders to achieve the highest quality and best patient experience.
- In collaboration with medical staff and facility leadership, ensures a superior care experience and safe environment for patients and staff. Guides the operational implementation of quality improvement initiatives using innovation and evidence-based practice.
- Accountable for the efficient delivery of all patient care services.
- Has final authority over all medical center staff providing nursing care, treatment, and services, including approval of standards of nursing practice, for all survey-able departments.
- Participates in the development, implementation, utilization and evaluation of cost-effective, hospital-wide programs, policies and procedures that address the high-quality nursing care, treatment and service needs of the patient population.
- Builds trust with the patient care services team and other operational departments and is highly visible with staff.
- Participates in the development, implementation and approval of policies and procedures that address how nursing care needs are assessed, met and evaluated.
- Has final authority over all medical center staff providing nursing care, treatment and services, including approval of standards of nursing practice.
- Facilitates and guides the hospital's plan for the recruitment and retention of nursing resources to ensure that a sufficient number of qualified staff members are available to meet the needs of the patients.
- Ensures a professional development program which addresses the needs of clinical and management staff.
- Assures short and long-range financial goals are met by establishing and controlling the budgets.
- Monitors and assesses trends, external environment and internal practices; makes recommendations to develop / adjust strategy to meet with changing business and market conditions.
- Assists managers in preparations of department operating and capital budgets based upon criteria supported by volume and expense projections, cost benefit analysis, operating processes, and other relevant information.
- Identifies and implements ways to reduce and control expenses as well as enhance revenues in hospital assigned areas. In addition, recommends ways of increasing hospital efficiency in all areas of operations.
- Communicates effectively as hospitals advocate to members of the community, continually seeking ways to improve and promote the public relations objective of the hospital efficiency in all areas of operations. Participates in and creates relationships with local and regional colleagues, facilities and leadership groups.
- Maintains a state of continuous regulatory readiness.
- Consistently supports and maintains compliance standards by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable) and policies and procedures.
- Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
- At least 10 years of nursing experience, with 5 years in a leadership role.
- Certification in Nursing Administration or similar credential
- Experience with budget management and financial planning.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience in strategic planning and organizational development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of nursing practices and regulatory requirements
