Dining Team Member Job #042809 – Department: Food Service – Bargaining Unit (code 33228‑7387). Location: Syracuse University campus. Position: Full‑time, Non‑exempt. Pay Range: $20.007–$22.229 per hour. Job Description: Dining Team Member will safely prepare, handle, and serve food in accordance with health and safety standards. Works as part of a team to ensure efficient service, cleanliness, and a high level of service to guests. Responsibilities Use and clean kitchen equipment and utensils; keep kitchen surfaces clean. Prepare and serve food, including salads, sandwiches, grilled items, and pizzas. Operate POS terminals and collect payment from customers. Assist with setting up and restocking food service lines and beverage stations. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and attractive work area that meets SU Food Services, County and State food‑safety standards. Assist on serving lines as needed. Take food to serving lines and replenish as needed. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Related Duties Provide support and collaborate with catering and event staff for event setup and refreshments. Maintain cleanliness in event spaces and monitor/replenish supplies. Adhere to food‑safety guidelines and hygiene standards while performing these duties. Work on other campus dining duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Stand 85%–100% of the shift. Frequently bend at the waist; bend to below the knee. Frequent stooping and/or crouching. Frequent walking throughout kitchen, stock room, and food service areas. Frequent twisting and bending of head, neck and torso. Full range of arm movement for reaching, stirring, wiping, etc. Listen to and communicate with customers and staff. Visual and cognitive ability to read, write, follow instructions and complete service records. Lift up to 30 lbs from floor to waist height. Lift up to 20 lbs overhead. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs for up to 30 feet. Perform repetitive wrist movements (chopping, cutting, slicing, shredding, wiping). Use fine motor skills for tongs, scissors, knives, and small utensils. Push up to 50 lbs and pull up to 40 lbs. Work in extreme heat conditions. Skills and Knowledge Basic reading, writing and following instructions; basic math skills. Knowledge of food‑safety protocols, proper storage, handling, temperature control, and sanitation. Effective communication and ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment. Valid ServeSafe food‑handler certification preferred or required within 45 days. Education and Experience Basic education sufficient to read, write, and follow instructions; basic math skills. Food service experience preferred.
