Soiland Materials is looking for an on-site Customer Service Representative to join our Yard & Garden and Green Recycling Center teams in Santa Rosa, CA. 

Great projects start with the right materials — and great service!

This position helps homeowners, landscapers, contractors, and other local customers find the soil, compost, mulch, rock, and other landscape materials they need for projects throughout our community.

This is more than a traditional customer service position. Throughout the day, you might help a homeowner calculate how much mulch is needed, process an order, coordinate a delivery, answer the phone, and communicate loading instructions to our Production team by radio. 

You do not need to know soil, compost, rock, or landscape materials on day one - we can teach you the products and the operation. We are looking for someone who enjoys helping people, is comfortable with numbers and details, and likes staying busy.

What You’ll Do

The pace of the work varies throughout the year. Some days are busy with customers, phones, deliveries, and trucks moving through the yard, while other days are quieter. Regular responsibilities include:

• Greet and assist customers in person and respond to phone and email inquiries.
• Help customers understand Soiland Materials products and determine the appropriate materials and quantities for their projects.
• Perform calculations involving material quantities, unit conversions, pricing, and order totals.
• Accurately process Point-of-Sale transactions, payments, customer charge accounts, and related records.
• Communicate customer orders and loading instructions clearly to Production employees using CB and handheld radios.
• Coordinate and dispatch trucking for customer deliveries and import orders.
• Monitor customer and truck traffic, help direct customers for loading or dumping, and support safe and efficient movement throughout the facility.
• Inspect incoming materials for compliance with company acceptance requirements; complete opening and closing responsibilities; and help keep daily operations running smoothly.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, year-round, hourly, non-exempt position. The position is in-person, averages approximately 40 hours per week, and is eligible for company benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Regular weekend availability is required. Initial training will generally consist of five workdays per week, scheduled between Monday and Saturday, from approximately 6:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. During the busier season, the regular schedule will include Saturday and Sunday shifts with a scheduled weekday off. Yard & Garden is generally closed on Sundays during the winter months.

This position works at both of our Santa Rosa locations: Yard & Garden at 5300 Sebastopol Road and Green Recycling Center at 2759 Llano Road. The locations are approximately one mile apart, and scheduled shifts may be at either site depending on operational needs.

Pay & Benefits

$21.38 - $24.23/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, year-round position with weekly payroll. Benefits for eligible full-time employees include:

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Mix of office and outdoor work with moderate noise.
• Regular sitting, standing, and walking; frequent reaching, handling, talking, hearing, and reading.
• Occasional stooping, crawling, crouching, and kneeling; ability to lift, push, or pull up to 35 lbs.
• Ability to climb rolling staircases and fixed stairs.
• Must wear required PPE in designated areas.

Requirements:

Qualifications

• 2+ years of customer-facing, operations, dispatch, logistics, administrative, or transactional experience.
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel and the ability to learn new computer systems.
• Strong basic math skills and the ability to accurately perform calculations, handle cash, and process transactions.
• Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available.
• Must be able to reliably commute to our Santa Rosa locations. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Experience That May Translate Well

Experience in dispatch, logistics, landscape or construction materials, recycling, equipment rental, contractor supply, shipping/receiving, or other high-volume customer service environments is a plus, but direct industry experience is not required.

Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus.
