The office seeks to maintain the highest standards of excellence in the enforcement of federal laws and the representation of the United States. Responsibilities The Assistant United States Attorney will handle a diverse caseload, conduct trials and appeals, and work within the Criminal Division to prosecute federal criminal cases and prepare appeals. Responsibilities increase and assignments become more complex as training and experience progress. Qualifications J.D. degree and active membership in any U.S. bar. United States citizenship. Criminal prosecution experience and proven ability to handle federal criminal litigation. Strong analytical, oral and written communication, research, and interpersonal skills. Ability to function with minimal guidance in a demanding environment. Commitment to public service, professionalism, ethics, and justice. Conditions of Employment You must be a United States Citizen or National. Initial appointment conditioned upon satisfactory preemployment adjudication (fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing). Continued employment subject to favorable background investigation. You must be registered for Selective Service if applicable. You must reside in the district of appointment or within 25 miles thereof. You must become a member of the West Virginia State Bar within one year of appointment. Benefits Salary range: $76,748 to $197,100 per year. Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
