Palliative Medicine Physician
Our organization is in search of an academic palliative medicine physician to join our growing program. The role will encompass both inpatient responsibilities and the establishment of an outpatient service. We provide dedicated time for teaching and research activities.
The Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Medicine operates within the Department of Medicine and consists of a collaborative team including 5.5 physicians, a Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Manager, a Clinical Pharmacist, a Chaplain, and a Social Worker, along with full-time Program Support and a Business Administrator. This team acts as expert palliative consultants for the multi-disciplinary service teams at our medical center, enhancing support for patients and their families.
Program StrengthsIndependent consultants have validated the following strengths of our program:
- Staff: A multidisciplinary and highly motivated team.
- Support: Backed by physician directors from our Medical and Surgical ICUs, the Shock Trauma Center Director, the Hospital Chief Medical Officer, Nursing leadership, and the Chairs of Internal and Family Medicine.
- Quality: Regular collection of operational data and integration of projects with the Medical ICU.
- Research: A solid foundation and support for grant funding to advance interdisciplinary research in Palliative Medicine.
The anticipated faculty rank for this position is at the level of Assistant Professor or higher. However, the final rank, tenure status, and salary will be aligned with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
The expected salary range for Assistant Professors is between $191,542 (minimum) and $267,823 (maximum). This range reflects base pay based on faculty rank and years of service. It does not encompass all elements of the departmental faculty compensation program or earnings from participation in variable compensation programs. Thus, the actual compensation for the selected candidate may differ from the stated salary range.
This salary range represents the minimum and maximum for this role, based on our organization’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will qualify for the upper end of the salary range. The final compensation offered will depend on various factors, including the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, and education/training, as reasonably determined by our organization.

QualificationsApplicants must possess a medical degree from an accredited domestic university or its foreign equivalent and must meet the criteria to obtain a medical license in the State of Maryland. Successful candidates will be board certified or eligible in Palliative Medicine. A strong background in internal medicine, along with experience in teaching, research, or quality improvement, is preferred.
