Fabricator
This role focuses on fabricating high-quality sheet metal parts using a variety of modern machines in a clean, climate-controlled job shop environment. You will operate equipment such as brakes, lasers, deburring machines, shears, notches, and turret punching machines while following detailed drawings and specifications. Safety, precision, and teamwork are central to this position, as you work closely with other team members and departments to ensure accurate, on-time production.
Responsibilities
- Perform all fabrication duties with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to established procedures.
- Operate sheet metal machines including brakes, lasers, deburring machines, shears, notches, and turret punching machines to fabricate parts to specification.
- Receive work orders and prints, review job requirements, and apply shop calculations and mathematics as needed to complete tasks accurately.
- Work from complex drawings, prints, templates, and specifications to produce parts that meet required dimensions and tolerances.
- Use a variety of machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments to cut, form, and verify pieces to required dimensions.
- Perform highly diversified work involving close tolerances, demonstrating a basic understanding of blank sizes, bend allowances, and forming techniques.
- Set up and operate machines for various fabrication operations, ensuring proper tooling, alignment, and settings for each job.
- Monitor machines continuously during operation to ensure proper performance and product quality, and report any issues promptly.
- Coordinate work with other team members and departments, following instructions and collaborating to meet production goals.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area by following housekeeping standards and removing debris or hazards as needed.
- Lift and move materials and parts up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the shift as part of daily fabrication activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production, equipment maintenance assistance, or continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Skills
- Experience operating sheet metal fabrication equipment such as press brakes, lasers, deburring machines, shears, notches, and turret punching machines.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, templates, and specifications for sheet metal fabrication.
- Proficiency with shop mathematics, including calculations related to dimensions, bend allowances, and blank sizes.
- Skill in using hand tools and precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and maintain close tolerances.
- Capability to perform machine set-up and operation for sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the shift.
- High degree of attention, mental alertness, and care to prevent injury to self and others when operating machines.
- Comfort working on a structured shift schedule, including 3rd shift from Friday to Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Basic understanding of welding and fabrication practices in a sheet metal environment.
- Ability to work effectively under close supervision and as part of a small team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with CNC laser operation in a fabrication environment.
- Previous experience in a job shop or custom fabrication setting.
- Interest in or openness to participating in an apprenticeship program to further develop fabrication skills.
- Motivation to pursue additional technical education, such as a two-year degree, supported by tuition reimbursement.
- Strong work ethic and consistent workmanship that supports long-term employment opportunities.

Work Environment
This position is based in a small job shop environment with approximately 15 team members, fostering close collaboration and clear communication. The facility is extremely clean, climate controlled, and equipped with very new, well-maintained machinery, creating a comfortable and professional workspace. You will work a 3rd shift schedule from Friday to Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., working 36 hours while being paid for 40 hours. The environment emphasizes safety, orderliness, and precision, with modern sheet metal fabrication technologies and equipment used daily. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilson, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
