General Statement of Duties To provide advanced level professional medical care within the Franklin Health Department's Outpatient Clinics, consistent with the appropriate scope of practice of the licensure held by the employee (i.e., PA, NP). As an employee in this role, the Advanced Practice Provider-Ill (APP-III), has received specialized training to function within a multidisciplinary configuration of providers delivering safe and high-quality patient are primarily within the FCHD's Maternal Health and Family Planning Clinics. Before performing in this role, the physician assistant or nurse practitioner must be approved to practice medical acts, tasks, or functions by the appropriate State Board as directed by the associated practice act. An employee at this level functions in a work environment that requires more independent judgements in planning and maintaining total medical care for a patient. The employee may provide sophisticated medical care with less physician supervision and, in addition, supervise and coordinate the nursing and medical services of a work area. Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, Abilities This is advanced level professional work in a specialized or general patient area. As an employee in this role, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP), has received specialized training to function within a multidisciplinary configuration of providers delivering safe and high-quality patient care. Before performing in this role, the physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or certified nurse midwife must be approved to practice medical acts, tasks, or functions by the appropriate State Board as directed by the associated practice act. An employee at this level functions in a work environment that requires more independent judgements in planning and maintaining total medical care for a patient; the characteristics of the work environment provide a broader scope of duties and increased overall complexity, as in a surgical area where the employee will primarily serve as first or second assistant in complex, non-routine surgery in the O.R. or in an intensive care unit where one commonly performs procedures as endotracheal intubation and central venous catheter insertion. Or the employee may provide sophisticated medical care with less physician supervision and, in addition, supervise and coordinate the nursing and medical services of a work area. As with the APP I and II, employees obtain a thorough patient history and physical examination, perform appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order medications, tests, and treatments; record, develop and maintain health care and therapeutic plans; and counsel patients. In a surgical area, employees have initial diagnostic, pre-operative, operative, and postoperative tasks; a majority of time is spent performing surgical activities in areas such as cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgery and burn reconstruction. These employees are practicing in collaboration with a supervising physician who is ultimately responsible for the employee's medical practice. The APP and the supervising physician must have a current collaborative practice agreement. The collaborative practice agreement must describe the arrangement for the APP and physician’s continuous availability to each other for the ongoing supervision, consultation, collaboration, referral, and evaluation of care provided by the APP. A supervising physician (or backup supervising physician) must be immediately available, if needed for consultation. The employee always functions in collaboration with the supervising physician. In addition, the employee may also function under the direction of non-medical personnel, i.e., nursing or administration while performing non-medical acts. This work has been identified in State hospitals, university infirmaries, local government public health and mental health programs, correctional units, and in other agency clinic settings. Desirable Education and Experience Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board; and two (2) years of experience as an APP; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Training and/or experience in Maternal Health and Family Planning required. Special Requirement: Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board. North Carolina Driver's License. Required Immunizations Two step TST (skin test) If you have had a negative TST within the last 12 months, you must have another one completed prior to employment. Proof of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of measles, mumps and rubella given at least 28 days apart or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease. Hepatitis B series: Either evidence of 3 doses; signed declination form or lab evidence of immunity. Evidence of Tdap vaccine Evidence of varicella immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of varicella given at least 28 days apart or a history of varicella or herpes zoster based on physician diagnosis or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease. ***Salary depends on experience and/or education. ***This job classification will be eligible for a $500 (taxable) Hiring Incentive.
