Company Name: Maven Genetics, Maven productions Job Title: Retail Shift Lead Department: Retail Location: Tarzana, CA Reports To: Retail Manager Pay Rate: $20 - $23/ hour (plus tips) Job Summary: The Shift Lead at Maven Genetics Retail will assist customers with purchasing product(s) and provide the best customer service during their experience, while assisting in supervising and leading teammates through the daily activities in the retail space. While the primary focus of this role is Store Associate, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to cross‑train in other positions within the department based on organizational needs. Duties and Responsibilities Lead and support Store Associates during daily retail operations. Serve as acting manager‑on‑duty when Retail Manager or Assistant Manager is unavailable. Ensure all customers receive outstanding service from entry to checkout. Assist customers with cannabis product education, recommendations, and purchasing decisions. Monitor team performance and ensure adherence to sales goals, operational procedures, and customer service standards. Support onboarding and training of new employees on POS systems, compliance procedures, and customer engagement. Handle customer concerns, escalations, and operational issues professionally and efficiently. Open and close the store following company cash‑handling and security procedures. Ensure accurate cash management, drawer reconciliation, and POS operations. Assist with inventory counts, restocking, merchandising, and organization of retail floor and stockroom. Verify compliance with state cannabis regulations, age verification requirements, and company policies. Communicate operational updates, product knowledge, and promotions to staff during shift meetings. Support loss prevention efforts and maintain a clean, safe, and organized retail environment. Meet and/or exceed individual and team sales performance goals. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least two years related work experience in the retail space required. At least two years related experience in cannabis; preferred. Excellent supervisory and interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent sales and customer service skills. Knowledge of cannabis and cannabis goods sold. Ability to anticipate customer’s needs, while being able to recommend products to customers. Ability to operate or to quickly learn the store’s POS system. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues effectively. Ability to motivate a team to accomplish objectives. Ability to solve conflicts among coworkers. Ability to remain organized. Detail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality and efficiency, especially in regard to communication. Requirements Must be 21 years of age. Available and willingness to work flexible onsite hours, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call shifts to meet business needs/production demands. Must have reliable transportation. Ability to stand for extended periods, sit for extended periods and continuous mobility and repetitive movements to stoop, kneel, and/or crouch on a daily basis. Manual dexterity and coordination. Occasionally lift and carry packaging supplies or equipment (typically up to 30 pounds). Sedentary Work: Ability to hear and respond to phone calls, meetings, and communications.
