Custodian Positions Available

Coordinated Care Agency (CCA), a dba of the Archdiocesan Housing Authority, offers comprehensive services, enhanced shelter, and housing for people experiencing deep poverty and homelessness. The purpose of our work is to ensure that people have access to the healthcare and supports that they need to thrive. The team works to promote social changes to dismantle systemic racism, injustices and inequities that contribute to housing instability. We approach our clients and colleagues through a trauma informed lens, based on the knowledge and understanding of how trauma affects people's lives.

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning building common areas and units during turnover. They seek to provide tenants with a safe, positive, and sanitary living environment. They complete the day-to-day tasks of client unit turns, work orders, and daily cleaning and sanitizing of common shared spaces.

Custodian positions offer a compensation range of $22.95 – $24.32 per hour (DOE)

• Thea Bowman Apartments (Kent) Part-time (32 hours per week) Day shift, Wednesday - Saturday
• St. Martin de Porres Shelter (Seattle) Part-time (16 hours per week) Day shift, Saturday - Sunday
• Reach Out Shelter (Federal Way) Full-time (40 hours per week) Day shift, Monday - Friday
• Reach Out Shelter (Federal Way) Part-time (16 hours per week) Day shift, Saturday - Sunday

Responsibilities

• Perform routine scheduled cleaning duties: sweep, mop, and wash walls.
• Clean bathrooms, food serving area, and other common areas to building standards.
• Stock and assist with communicating inventory.
• Facilitate, pack, label, and store previous & current client belongings.
• Prepare vacant units for occupancy.
• Maintain a clean exterior of the building.
• Assist building maintenance staff and maintenance vendors as needed.
• Remove garbage and recycling from the building following all safe trash removal protocols and wash trash cans.
• Regularly lift and carry supplies, donations, furnishing, etc.
• Ability to respond to urgent janitorial needs/requests/emergencies
• Assist program staff in ensuring occupied units meet Health and Quality standards. As identified, participate in joint clean-up and/or hoarding safety efforts.
• Model interpersonal and living skills for clients.
• Enforce building and program rules, including bar policy.
• Support a positive, team-oriented work environment.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Alert management to non-maintenance concerns.
• Observe/follow guidelines on the confidentiality rights of residents and respect their privacy.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with businesses in the surrounding neighborhood.
• Contribute to the mission of Catholic Community Services
• Work in-person at a program and attend required in-person agency meetings.

Job Conditions:

This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to illicit drug residues and fumes, bloodborne pathogens or other bio-hazardous materials in the course of doing business. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance, building temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, pests, and odors. Other working conditions may include interruptions, working alone, evening or weekend work, responding to emergencies and working on-call.

This position also requires the employee to work with clients who may have untreated or poorly treated substance use and mental health disorders. These clients may demonstrate challenging behaviors that require staff support for de-escalation or redirection.

• The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel/type, operate office machinery and reach with hands and arms.
• Requires the ability to regularly push, pull, lift and/or carry supplies up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work takes place at the agency work location for the duration of the scheduled shift where long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required.

Mental Requirements:

The cognitive skills needed to complete tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for decision-making, problem-solving, and comprehending.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• One year experience working in a social service and/or customer service role
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment, and chemicals
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience or knowledge of mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or homeless services.
• Knowledge and experience with crisis intervention.
• Commitment to harm reduction and housing first program model.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to commit to developing and safekeeping a workplace that values and supports a culturally diverse work environment.
• Experience with Microsoft office suite of programs and related databases.
• Must have a reliable means of communication (e.g. phone, voicemail service, email, etc.) at all times in which to be reached.
• Ability to adapt and respond to different people and situations through a trauma-informed lens
• Support and uphold the mission, beliefs and values of the Coordinated Care Agency and the Archdiocesan Housing Authority.
• Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful environment that promotes teamwork.
• Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
• Criminal history background checks are required prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred
• A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record per agency driving policy.
• Knowledge and experience with crisis intervention.
• Previous experience working with people experiencing homelessness.
• Lived experience with homelessness, mental health, and/or substance use.
• Previous work experience in programs that work with high-needs participants.
• CPR/First Aid training.
