Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Job Summary
Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The PCU RN provides specialized care to patients with complex medical conditions, including cardiac, respiratory, and post-surgical cases. This role requires advanced monitoring, including telemetry, and a high level of nursing intervention for patients needing closer monitoring than medical/surgical units, but less than the ICU. The RN will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments and continuous monitoring of patient vitals and telemetry data.
• Administer medications, manage intravenous lines, and perform complex medical treatments.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians.
• Educate patients and families on disease management and post-discharge self-care.
• Act as a patient advocate, providing compassionate care and support to families.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatment within the electronic health record system.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Virginia.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of acute care experience, with PCU or ICU experience preferred.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) preferred.
