Safety Coordinator

We are seeking a Safety Coordinator to support daily health, safety, and environmental (HSE) operations at a busy maritime terminal in Wilmington, DE. This individual will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture by ensuring OSHA compliance, conducting safety training, investigating incidents, and partnering with operations leadership to maintain a safe work environment. This is a hands‑on role that requires a visible presence in the field and the ability to work closely with terminal operations, warehouse personnel, and union labor. Key Responsibilities Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all established safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular inspections of terminal, warehouse, and operational work areas to identify and mitigate safety risks. Deliver safety orientations, training sessions, toolbox talks, and other safety‑related communications. Partner with operations management to implement safety initiatives and resolve safety concerns promptly. Participate in and lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring proper reporting, documentation, and corrective actions. Monitor corrective action plans and follow up to ensure timely completion. Conduct routine safety audits and communicate findings and recommendations to management. Maintain accurate and confidential safety records and documentation. Foster a proactive safety culture through coaching, education, and employee engagement. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to health, safety, and environmental compliance. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field. 3–5 years of safety experience, preferably within the maritime, transportation, logistics, warehousing, or heavy industrial environment. Experience working in unionized environments is strongly preferred. OSHA certifications are preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) within 90 days of hire. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software systems. Physical & Work Environment This is an active, field-based position requiring frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, and working around heavy equipment and moving machinery. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including refrigerated warehouse environments. Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require. Occasional travel may be required.
