HEALTH PHYSICIST

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. You will serve as a Health Physicist for PSNS & IMF Responsibilities You will evaluate radiation survey data to determine radiation hazards and compliance with established radiation level requirements. You will assist in conducting inspections and surveillances of program operations. You will conduct personnel dosimetry investigations to determine personnel exposures, evaluate results, and recommend improvements. You will perform statistical and trend analyses of data relating to radiation health programs. You will prepare reports of findings and evaluations to develop procedures and modification of existing requirements. You will use and develop computer programs related to health physics. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Qualifications for the GS-05: Applicants who meet the Basic Education Requirements for this position are fully qualified for the GS-05 grade level. Qualifications for the GS-07: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a Professional Health Physicist assessing and investigating radiological issues and assisting with the collection of hazardous samples and preparation of reports for radiation health programs. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess: A bachelor's degree or higher in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus OR A combination of education and experience with courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above. Education may be substituted for specialized experience at the GS-07 level as follows: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education. students/federal-occupations-by-college-major OR Successful completion of a bachelor's degree, with superior academic achievement, in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus OR A combination of education and experience with courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described above. Additional Information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. Pay retention may be granted when certain conditions are met. Pay Retention will be extended to eligible Department of Defense employees.
