Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Licensed Vocational NurseSalary Range: $26.71 - $36.81Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.Position Summary:Under the direction of the Physician or Nurse Manager, responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients in accordance with the standards defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians, the American Nurses Association (ANA) and Lompoc Valley Medical Center.District Responsibility:Support of the District Mission and ValuesDemonstrate Respect, Professionalism and Courtesy to all patients, visitors, other providers and coworkers, as delineated in the LVMC "Commitment to Care".Constantly use C-I-CARE principles when communicating with others.Performance Improvement ActivitiesProfessional DevelopmentPosition Duties/Responsibility:Assess patient's general condition and takes vital signs.Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriation information.Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.Administers prescribed medications.Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care.Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.May prepare equipment and aid physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.May be asked to act as a department resource and coordinate nursing care for patients.Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.Maintains strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.Must thoroughly understand and follow established policy and procedure with regard to basic patient care.Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs and activities.May start and maintain intravenous fluid therapy or perform venous blood withdrawal. (Note: for IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California).Exercises discretion and maintains high level of confidentiality.Performs related work as required.Essential Functions:Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures.Knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology.Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, other members of the healthcare team, etc.Ability to adapt to varied, age-specific and/or specialized groups.Ability to understand use, function, interpret, document, and keep records.Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.Ability to organize and prioritize work.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to reason and make sound judgments.Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, management, patients, medical staff, and the public.Skill in accepting constructive criticism and giving suggestions in a professional manner.Position Qualifications:Education: Must have a valid license in the State of California as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with IV Therapy certification.Experience: Pediatric nursing experience preferred.Cert/License: A valid California nursing license. Current BLS certification by American Heart Association at time of hire. AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support and AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support a plus. For IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California.LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years LVN experience in a clinic setting is strongly preferred.
