Fabricator/Maintenance Mechanic (Onsite) ID: ARS-PA-110 | Location: Las Cruces | Program: ARS Wage/Hr: $29.00 | Hours/Week: 20 | Minimum Age: 55 This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States. *This position will be open until filled. Qualifications Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in industrial machinery maintenance, fabrication, and installation; facilities maintenance; and scientific sample and data collection. Or HS/GED Degree. Skill in operating shop tools, such as drill presses, band saws, grinders, hand-powered tools, hand tools, stick and MIG welders, and cutting torches. Ability to operate a forklift. Knowledge of proper and safe operating procedures for each cotton gin machinery sequence. Duties Fabricates and installs both conventional and experimental equipment and component parts from completed drawings. Performs maintenance and repair of research and laboratory equipment and facilities, including structural, cosmetic, and mechanical systems. Provides support, assists technicians and shop personnel, for ginning research projects and unit operation. Collects and weighs samples and records data as required by the test. Fabrication and installation. 40% Maintenance and repair. 30% Research support and sample and data collection. 30% Other Health and Safety Considerations: Most work is performed inside heated and ventilated shop and laboratory areas. Work is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, cotton lint, drafts, and physical hazards from powered tools and machinery, metal chips, snags, and welding and cutting equipment. Occasional outside work may be subject to dust or prevailing weather conditions. Required Safety Gear: Some tasks require wearing personal protective equipment, such as welding helmets, aprons, safety glasses, dust masks, ear protection, and hard hats. Safety rules and protocols must be observed. The enrollee will be informed of safety rules and protocols by the Primary Monitor, and the enrollee will participate in regular safety training with Laboratory staff. Physical requirements: Work requires stooping, bending, reaching, crawling on machines, climbing ladders and platforms, and working from a prone position while operating and adjusting various machines. The work frequently requires walking or standing for prolonged periods and lifting, pushing, and pulling loads that occasionally exceed 50 pounds in weight.
