The Opportunity
MHTN is seeking an experienced architectural healthcare planner to take a leading role in the planning of a new, complex acute-care hospital currently in design .

This position is intended for a healthcare design professional with substantial experience in hospital programming, clinical and operational planning, stakeholder engagement, and the development of functional healthcare environments. You will work directly with healthcare executives, clinicians, administrators, architects, engineers, and design teams to translate clinical workflows, operational requirements, and long-term strategic objectives into thoughtful, functional, and adaptable healthcare environments.

Your primary focus will be hands-on healthcare planning and project work. As a senior member of MHTN's healthcare team, you will also have opportunities to mentor others, strengthen healthcare planning tools and standards, participate in selected pursuits, and influence the continued growth of the practice.

What You'll Lead

• Lead healthcare planning and programming for a new acute-care hospital and other complex healthcare facilities.
• Facilitate clinical user-group meetings, stakeholder engagement sessions, planning workshops, and consensus-building discussions with healthcare clients.
• Translate clinical workflows and operational requirements into functional programs, space allocations, departmental relationships, planning concepts, and room-by-room planning.
• Evaluate patient, staff, material, and operational flows to support efficient, safe, and adaptable healthcare environments.
• Develop and evaluate planning options based on clinical needs, operational requirements, utilization, capacity, adjacencies, and future growth.
• Interpret and apply healthcare regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements, FGI Guidelines, life-safety requirements, and applicable building codes.
• Collaborate closely with architects, interior designers, engineers, consultants, contractors, and client representatives throughout the planning and design process.
• Conduct facility evaluations, operational assessments, strategic planning studies, and healthcare campus or master planning efforts as applicable.
• Clearly communicate planning concepts and recommendations to clinicians, administrators, executive leaders, and multidisciplinary project teams.

What You'll Bring

• Significant experience leading healthcare programming, planning, and clinical workflow analysis for complex hospitals or comparable healthcare environments.
• Strong understanding of healthcare delivery models, clinical operations, facility planning, and healthcare design best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to develop functional programs, departmental plans, space requirements, adjacencies, and planning concepts that respond to clinical and operational needs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare codes, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, FGI Guidelines, life-safety requirements, and healthcare building systems.
• Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and client relationship skills.
• The ability to communicate complex planning concepts clearly through verbal, written, graphic, and presentation formats.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary architectural, engineering, consultant, and client teams on large or complex projects.
• Strategic judgment, curiosity, and a collaborative approach to solving complex healthcare planning challenges.
• The ability to work effectively within Revit- and BIM-based architectural project environments. Regular Revit production is not the primary focus of this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, healthcare design, planning, interior architecture, or another closely related design discipline. Candidates with other relevant educational backgrounds and exceptional healthcare-planning experience may also be considered.
• Typically, 10 or more years of relevant healthcare planning and design experience, including substantial responsibility for complex healthcare projects.
• Significant experience planning hospitals or other complex healthcare facilities.
• Experience working directly with healthcare clients, clinical user groups, administrators, and multidisciplinary design teams.

Additional experience with acute-care hospitals, healthcare master planning, architectural licensure, executive-level presentations, design-build delivery, or healthcare credentials such as ACHA, EDAC, or LEED AP is valued but not required.

Salt Lake City and Relocation Support
This position is based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area and follows MHTN's flexible hybrid work schedule, with the ability to work remotely up to two days per week. Because close collaboration with clients and project teams is an important part of this role, the successful candidate must live in or relocate to the Salt Lake City area.

MHTN recognizes that the right healthcare-planning candidate may be located elsewhere in the country. To support relocation, MHTN offers relocation assistance for eligible candidates, including a six-month cost-of-living stipend, as well as a signing bonus .

Position Details and Compensation
This is a full-time, salaried, overtime-exempt position.
The anticipated starting salary range is $120,000–$140,000 annually , based on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated healthcare-planning expertise.
