Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This position is for a Med Surg Ortho Trauma unit, specializing in medical-surgical care. The unit comprises 55 beds, focusing on various common diagnoses such as joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomies, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive.

Shift Details

• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Patient Care

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6. Nurses are required to manage various responsibilities effectively, including titrating drips such as Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine. Patients are monitored using telemetry, and while interpreting strips is encouraged, Tele Techs will primarily handle this responsibility.

Orientation and Training

• Unit/Department Specific Orientation: 2 days
• All nurses will complete a Pass/Fail exam during orientation, focusing on learned skills. A score of 90% is required to pass.

Staffing and Support

• Certified Nursing Assistants/Patient Care Technicians are present with a ratio of 1:10-20.
• A Charge Nurse is available on each shift and does take an assignment.

Weekend and Holiday Requirements

Nurses are typically expected to work every other weekend, with scheduling made six weeks in advance. Holiday coverage is required for 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year's.

Additional Requirements

Floating may be necessary to other medical-surgical areas or units housing MedSurg patients awaiting beds. The use of artificial nails is prohibited in all patient care departments. RTO (requested time off) must be provided upfront, with limits on additional RTO approval.

Attire and Dress Code

Staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs. Scrubs are not provided.
