A Communications Technician 2 is responsible for the installation and assisting with Planning & Layout of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. As a technician you should have the work experience installing basic equipment which involves using hand tools and power tools, a basic understanding of Telecom Systems, blueprints and knowledge of codes and standards. Additionally, each technician must make every effort to become a qualified BICSI Technician. Telecom technicians are full‑time employees with company benefits. Responsibilities Knowledge and safe use of hand tools and various power tools Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Following safety policies and procedures Actively participating in daily safety and work briefings Installation of various types of low‑voltage cable Installation, inspection, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting of ISP/OSP telecommunications systems (fiber optics, Category 5, 6, 6A, and associated equipment such as: Various pathways and cabletray Various cabinets and racks Various telecommunications devices Prefabricated components and assemblies Telecommunications grounding systems Surveying and documenting existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices Sketching rack elevations, floor, and wall elevations Training and supervising apprentices to install cable from telecommunication rooms to work area outlets, following drawings and run lists to ensure methodical installation and proper bundling Performing quality‑assurance checks of the team's work to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements Maintaining a clean work area and participating in job‑site cleanup Securing company tools and materials daily Travel up to 25% of the time may be required Qualifications 4+ years prior experience in the commercial communications industry Be 18 years of age High school diploma or GED is required Excellent safety record, a valid driver’s license, and clean driving record to meet corporate eligibility requirements for company‑owned vehicle use Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite Ability to pass basic telecommunication knowledge test Demonstrated experience and ability to read and understand plans and specifications Strong communications, time‑management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives Consistently report to work on time, work well with others to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment Wear long pants and a shirt that covers the shoulders by six (6) inches. These are not provided by the company Provide basic tools from the provided tool list prior to the 1st day of employment Abilities Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, demonstrating physical strength and stamina for tasks such as loading, unloading, operating equipment, and transporting materials; proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed Relocating a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance Working at various heights up to 60 feet and climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders Walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead on a routine and repetitive basis Good vision (may be corrected), color vision, hearing, and ability to communicate in English Use of a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools Recognizing potential problems without necessarily solving them Applying general rules to specific problems to produce coherent answers Combining pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, including finding relationships among seemingly unrelated events Seeing details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) Listening to and understanding information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences Desired Skills BICSI credentials, including Technician level Manufacturer certifications and/or fiber certification Experience with Microsoft Office applications #J-18808-Ljbffr M.C.
