Assistant General Counsel

Job Summary The Assistant General Counsel provides legal counsel and support on complex and high impact matters within the Legal Department, collaborating with the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel(s), and/or Senior Assistant General Counsel(s) as appropriate. Serves as lead attorney for a defined portfolio of legal matters, projects, markets, CareSource affiliates/subsidiaries, or specialized area within a practice group, exercising independent judgment on complex legal issues. Essential Functions Provide advice and counsel on corporate, transactional, regulatory, and compliance matters, including drafting legal opinions and recommendations Proactively identify, assess, and communicate legal and regulatory risks; monitor and interpret legislative and regulatory developments relevant to assigned areas. Lead or provide legal support for contracting matters, including drafting, negotiation, dispute resolution, and vendor/provider agreements. Support corporate governance, compliance, and business development initiatives, including new market implementations and partnership arrangements Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, regulators, governmental entities, external counsel, and key stakeholders. Manage and/or support litigation and dispute resolution activities Provide guidance and legal expertise to business partners and legal team members within area of responsibility. Perform any other job-related duties as requested Education and Experience Juris Doctor (J.D) from an accredited college/university required Seven (7) years of legal, regulatory, or compliance experience required Previous experience in a law firm or in-house corporate legal department preferred Healthcare and/or managed care law experience strongly preferred, particularly government programs preferred Demonstrated experience supporting complex regulatory environments and business operations preferred Competencies, Knowledge and Skills Demonstrates expertise in healthcare law, regulatory requirements, and assigned legal practice areas. Applies sound legal judgment to resolve complex matters and assess risk. Provides practical, business-focused legal guidance and recommendations. Balances legal, regulatory, and business considerations when providing counsel. Communicates complex legal matters clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Builds productive relationships with business partners, stakeholders, and legal team members. Adapts communication style to meet stakeholder needs and business objectives. Contributes to knowledge sharing and professional development within the Legal Department. Supports collaboration across legal practice areas and business functions. Provides guidance and subject matter expertise within assigned areas of responsibility. Manages competing priorities and delivers high‑quality legal work in a timely manner. Takes accountability for outcomes and follows matters through to resolution. Demonstrates adaptability and sound judgment in a dynamic business environment. Licensure and Certification Current, unrestricted Attorney license is required Working Conditions General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time Travel is not typically required Compensation Range $135,600.00 - $237,400.00 CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level. In addition to base compensation, you may qualify for a bonus tied to company and individual performance.
