About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) Experience: Minimum one (1) year of relevant nursing experience License: Valid state RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: Knowledge in nursing process, patient assessment, care plan development, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution. The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. The RN identifies their own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. The RN receives patient bedside shift report from an RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring the inclusion of patient input and visual validation of a safe patient room environment at the time of shift change. The RN delegates patient care tasks/responsibilities to assigned healthcare technicians and validates completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift. The RN completes and documents basic patient care activities such as assessments, interpretation of vital signs, completion of physician orders, admission/discharge of patients, hourly rounding on each assigned patient, care plan documentation, and patient education. The RN meets documentation standards for each assigned patient. The RN provides patient medications utilizing the 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time. The RN maintains patient safety as the highest priority level by ensuring compliance with safety measures, including fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and patient ambulation safety. The RN maintains a positive attitude at all times on the unit that promotes a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment. The RN focuses on promptly answering patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests and medical needs. The RN uses critical thinking to evaluate the overall patient condition and uses nursing judgment to identify and act on changes in patient status. The RN effectively communicates within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and patient safety. The RN effectively manages time to enable the quick admission and discharge process for observation status patients and facilitates the completion of patient testing to move patients quickly towards discharge disposition.
