Position Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical, deeply technical, and systems-minded Head of Engineering for our POS Application Platform to join our core centralized Development collective in a full-time remote capacity across Spain. In this high-leverage and high-stakes executive seat functioning as the domain CTO for everything that runs on our terminal hardware, you will step up to claim true individual operational and architectural accountability for building, governing, and scaling the foundational software engineering layer that sits beneath every physical POS product at Moniepoint. Shifting completely away from routine consumer-facing feature engineering, basic web app maintenance, or passive hands-off managerial administration, you will operate as a principal platform architect—retaining a heavy 40% to 60% hands-on code contribution ratio to personally write core abstractions and set the technical execution defaults for our entire distributed developer community. This position requires an embedded software industry veteran with 10+ years of engineering history who programs robust low-level runtime engines fluidly natively using Android frameworks, builds shared libraries and SDK modules smoothly natively using Kotlin and Java, and navigates strict international financial encryption and certification protocols with absolute structural precision.

Key Responsibilities

• Core Platform Technical Strategy and Architecture: Formulate, document, and execute the comprehensive technical roadmap, system design standards, and architectural backbone for Moniepoint heterogeneous POS device fleet, acting as the domain CTO across our terminal platform.
• Four Pillars Platform Governance: Architect and scale our four foundational platform tracks: Developer Experience (custom testing tools, shared libraries, core SDKs), Platform Reliability (high-uptime frameworks, strict quality standards), Foundational Frameworks (CI/CD release pipelines, code standards), and Squad Adoption (driving platform tooling uptake across embedded product squads).
• Heterogeneous Device Fleet Management: Define, monitor, and enforce rigid technical standards across approximately five active POS device types from multiple global OEM manufacturers (including Topwise and Telpo), ensuring absolute behavioral and code consistency across Android architectures.
• Cross-Squad Functional Engineering Leadership: Guide, review, and mentor POS engineers embedded across independent, cross-functional Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, and Loans business cells, setting the bar for engineering quality and providing the universal platform layer above all of them.
• End-to-End Terminal Observability Architecture: Design, code, and deploy comprehensive remote device observability, monitoring, alerting, and automated incident response frameworks to track terminal system health and transaction dropping anomalies across the entire network.
• OEM Hardware and Integration Sourcing: Collaborate directly with external OEM partners and internal POS hardware engineering teams, defining how new terminal variants are securely onboarded, configured, and integrated with application layers from day one.
• High-Frequency Hands-On Code Contribution: Maintain a rigorous 40 to 60 percent ratio of direct software development, writing core platform code, reviewing pull requests, and establishing the baseline implementation standard through your personal code craft.
• Engineering Process and Tooling Systemisation: Build, automate, and optimize developer productivity trackers, building advanced CI/CD pipelines, Docker/Kubernetes container configurations, and cloud-native microservices architectures across AWS.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years of verified professional history running advanced software engineering, distributed systems programming, embedded mobile applications design, high-volume transactional backend architecture, or fintech consulting.
• A minimum of 6 years of documented history successfully leading, scaling, and structuring engineering cells through high-growth phases, ideally within multi-national enterprises or large venture-backed tech platforms.
• Mandatory POS Application Sourcing Experience: Direct, hands-on professional experience building and launching software that runs directly on Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal devices. This requires deep engineering history on the terminal device application layer itself—candidates whose background is restricted to server-side integrations with POS systems will not be considered under any circumstances.
• Mandatory Payment Certification Proficiency: Strong, authoritative technical working knowledge of EMV payment standards (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) alongside proven history navigating complex transaction certification processes including PCI DSS and P2PE protocols.
• Expert-tier capability writing custom device tools, designing native mobile software architectures, and configuring shared enterprise libraries natively utilizing Android systems.
• Practical operational familiarity building modular code blocks, multi-threaded tasks, and performant data validation sequences natively using Kotlin and Java (with preferred secondary exposure to C or C++ optimization routines).
• Demonstrated history building internal engineering platforms, shared platform infrastructure tools, or core developer frameworks utilized explicitly by other internal developer squads rather than consumer feature pages.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication traits in business-fluent English, enabling absolute confidence and persuasive consultative influence when defending complex first-principles technical architecture trade-offs before the global CTO and business leadership.
