Physician (Psychiatrist - Float) - Recruitment/Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized - EDRP

Summary A full‑time staff psychiatrist position as Float Team, Interventional Team, and Research Psychiatrist is available at the Dallas VA Medical Center in the VA North Texas Health Care System Mental Health Service (VANTHCS MHS) in Dallas, TX. The position is offered with planned support from the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW). Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized for highly qualified individuals. The Education Debt Reduction Program is authorized. Qualifications United States citizenship (non‑citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy). Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree must be from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed. Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification, or equivalent experience as described in the qualifications list. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: board eligibility or certification by ABPN or AOBNP, buprenorphine treatment experience, tele‑mental health visits, interventional psychiatry modalities such as rTMS, ECT, esketamine, and successful psychiatric clinical research including acting as a primary investigator on grant‑funded research. Physical requirements: moderate lifting up to 44 pounds, moderate carrying up to 44 pounds, reaching above shoulder level, use of fingers with both hands, walking for 8 hours, near vision corrected to 13–16 to Jaeger 1–4, far vision corrected to 20/20 and 20/40, hearing meeting specific requirements. Mental and emotional stability required. Duties Provide comprehensive psychiatric medical care (assessment, consultation, treatment) to patients across the VANTHCS MHS system, including outpatient and inpatient psychiatry, diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy. Manage individuals with a broad range of clinical problems: PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and psychiatric disorders in the elderly veteran population. Deliver interventional psychiatric treatments, including ECT, esketamine, ketamine, and rTMS. Act as the primary investigator for collaborative VA‑University of Texas Southwestern research in rTMS and conduct psychiatric clinical research. Serve as a collaborative member of the broader VANTHCS MHS team and provide clinical supervision to health‑care professionals and trainees. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with light on‑call responsibilities.
