Learn more about this agency Duties Help As a Supervisory Meteorologist, you will perform the following duties:
- Serve as the Deputy Chief of the Science Branch, providing leadership, management, aviation, and meteorological expertise to the Aircraft Operations Center (AOC). Provide guidance on meteorological and technical matters and provide instruction for daily activities. Provide resource planning and produce reports that address questions and field activities. Make decisions on work problems while interfacing with supervisors from other departments.
- Oversee meteorological support, data processing, and scientific analysis for AOC programs and projects. Collect and evaluate data from hurricanes and tropical weather systems and identify and track issues related to data assimilation, quality control, and archiving.
- Provide the full range of supervisory support services for staff. Evaluate and develop performance and provide instruction to employees on work and administrative matters. Interview candidates and make or approve selections for subordinate positions. Make decisions on training needs and requests related to employees of the branch.
- Perform the duties of this position, and those of a NOAA Air Crewmember during mission flights and is Drug Testing Designated.
- The incumbent is required to meet and maintain the AOC Air Crewmember Medical requirements, equivalent to the FAA 3rd Class Medical Certificate.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 40 pounds.

- One year probationary period may be required.
- A one year supervisory probationary period may be required (probationary period can be served concurrently).

- This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
- This position requires Moderate Risk Security Clearance.
- Background investigation will be required. Continued employment is subject to applicant's successful completion of security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

- Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics;*
- Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale);
- Three semester hours of physical meteorology; and
- Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
- Planning, leading or coordinating meteorological operations and related aviation activities; and
- Conducting meteorological data analysis of hurricanes or tropical weather systems and ensuring accuracy or quality control.
- Copy of your RIF separation notice; notice of proposed removal for failure to relocate; notice of disability annuity termination; certification from your former agency that it cannot place you after your recovery from a compensable injury; or certification from the National Guard Bureau or Military Department that you are eligible for disability retirement;
- Copy of your SF-50 "Notification of Personnel Action" documenting your RIF separation, noting your positions, grade level, and duty location, and/or Agency certification of inability to place you through RPL, etc;
- Copy of your latest performance appraisal including your rating; and
- Any documentation from your agency that shows your current promotion potential.
- Copy of your specific RIF notice; notice of proposed removal for failure to relocate; a Certificate of Expected Separation (CES); or certification that you are in a surplus organization or occupation (this could be a position abolishment letter, a notice eligibility for discontinued service retirement, or similar notice).
- Copy of your SF-50 "Notification of Personnel Action", noting current position, grade level, and duty location;
- Copy of your latest performance appraisal including your rating; and
- Any documentation from your agency that shows your current promotion potential.
- SF-50, "Notification of Personnel Action": You must provide the most current Notification of Personnel Action (SF-50) that verifies career/career-conditional status, title, series, and highest grade level held on a permanent basis for your previous position, AND the SF-50 that verifies your separation date; AND
- Performance Appraisal: Most recent performance appraisal showing the official rating of record, signed by a supervisor, or statement why the performance appraisal is unavailable.
