Position Title Substitute Teacher (Grades 6–12) Reports To Middle School & Upper School Leadership Status On-Call / As Needed Compensation $45.00 per class About The Athenian School The Athenian School is an independent college preparatory boarding and day school in Danville, CA, serving students in grades 6–12. Position Overview Athenian seeks adaptable, engaging Substitute Teachers to provide high-quality classroom instruction across various subject areas on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate brings strong classroom management, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners in a dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities Instructional Delivery: Implement lesson plans provided by the primary teacher; adapt content thoughtfully to foster experiential and interdisciplinary learning. Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment that encourages critical thinking and active student engagement. Community Engagement: Support Athenian’s core pillars and participate in daily community life, activities, and campus routines as needed. Collaboration & Communication: Work seamlessly with Middle and Upper School leadership, faculty, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of learning. Core Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Education or a related academic discipline required. Experience: Background teaching or working with Middle School (grades 6–8) and/or Upper School (grades 9–12) students. Cultural Competency: Proven ability to connect and work effectively with students, families, and colleagues across a wide range of identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Subject Versatility: Flexibility to cover core academic subjects (e.g., Humanities, STEM, Languages) as assigned.
