DescriptionDepartment: Poison CenterFTE: 0.6 (48 hours per pay period)Workdays: Monday - Friday and every other weekendShift(s): Day/Evening rotationShift Length: 8 hoursLocation: In-PersonOther: Benefits eligibleSUMMARYUnder supervision by a pharmacist or specialist in poison information, provides emergency information and treatment recommendations by phone for poison exposures involving substances of a nontoxic or minimal toxic nature; and promote public poison prevention education.RESPONSIBILITIESPromotes positive customer relations in dealing with patients, visitors, and other employeesResponds to telephone calls from the public regarding nontoxic or minor poison exposures: determine the type and severity of each exposure; and recommends initial first aid and treatment advice per poison center guidelinesResponds to telephone calls requesting tablet identification, basic poison information and poison prevention questionsPerforms follow-up callsAccurately records medical case information utilizing computerized data collection softwareParticipates in case review and quality assurance activitiesProvides public poison prevention educationParticipates in training of new poison information providersCompletes special projects as assignedPromotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectivesResponsible for all intradepartmental communication by staff meeting or in-service attendance and information sent by email. Maintains a working knowledge of the poison center policy and procedure manualActs consistently with all HRPC policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and refers all calls outside the scope of their positionQualificationsQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications:2 years of college education (health and/ or science related studies preferred)Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program, or Licensed Practical Nurse Program, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Program-OR-An approved equivalent combination of education and experience-AND-LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS - TBDKnowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Computer skills are requiredStrong verbal and writing skillsJob Level: StaffEmployee Status: Regular
